Go ballax I haven't missed any, have I? Just noticed Manchester United were on TV at least 36 times during the season and received well in excess of £60m, that sounds fair.
I know I missed the Brum game on TV but watched the other two. In fact, that just about sums up my season. I actually class the defeat at Peterborough as my second best footballing day out this season.
It's not really about fairness though, it's about what people want to watch. Lots of people want to watch Man Utd, not many people want to watch Barnsley.
It should be about fairness because I'm pretty sure that people would watch games that didn't involve the big teams if they weren't force fed it every week. Even when there is a chance to change the same old routine, like in the FA cup for example, they still show the big teams. Its boring, repetative and very unfair on what is supposed to be a competition.
As MarioKempes says, it's hard to imagine an FA Cup game between us and a minnow that would warrant TV coverage. They'd rather show Sunderland v Wigan than Barnsley v Harrogate. As Jay rightly observes, they're probably right in terms of viewing figures but it's just another way that money collects at the top of the game.
I was thinking there were more but that's probably because I watched online feeds of the MK Dons and Bristol City away games! Weren't we on away to Hull in league?
Thats what I hate the most about FA cup on TV. They'd sooner show something like Stoke Vs Aston Villa as opposed to, say Blackpool Vs MK Dons. Even though Stoke and Villa is an un-inspiring tie of teams that have played each other every season recently.
What I found most ironic was the advertising campaign for the FA cup a few years ago which focused on the romance of the cup and showed a milkman and other trades to symbolise the minnows. What a great hook yet as soon as the draw is made and there was a game like Blackpool v Fleetwood (I think) that really did reflect the romance of the cup it was ignored to show a game like Man Utd v Chelsea or some other similar mind numbingly unimaginative FA cup tie. I might be wrong but it just seems to me that the TV companies just don’t get it.
But however much people talk about the romance of the cup and how it'd be great to watch games like Blackpool v Fleetwood, more people will tune in to watch Man Utd v Chelsea. It's heartbreaking.
It was terrible coverage of the cup this season. Man utd were on every round and they overlooked Macclesfield twice at home to Cardiff n Wigan I think. If the magic of the cup is man utd v reading instead of a non league team at home to a premiership club then there's no wonder everybody is losing interest in it
It's what you get when ITV have the rights, their sole focus is on viewing figures to maximise ad revenue, like it or not Man Utd draw in those figures. It's why it should be on BBC.
