on the bbs are truck drivers , i see a few up and down the uk and europe with flags or scarfs in there trucks ,just wonderd how many live in tarn or moved for work,
If they are reading your post whilst driving you'll see artics swerving all over the road, especially motorways, as they tap out their replies to you.
If they're reading this whilst in their cab tapping one out they might want to meet up. #anyholesagoal.
Judging by the supermarket shortages resulting from the lack of lorry drivers, I'd say none. The army are on standby to drive lorries, going to happen soon, you heard it here first.
If supermarkets didn’t squeeze the life out of suppliers, then the suppliers might be able to pay a decent wage to attract drivers
HGV drivers get a decent wage at least if they are class 1 - saw an ad for Drivers indicating annual earnings of 45K-60K a couple of days ago Happy to be corrected if an actual HGV driver can comment
I know you know more about it than me but they do get a decent wage though don't they? Just checked on indeed and 26-27k a year seems about right for class 2 round here and more like £32k upwards for class 1. The man problem that I see is that a lot of foreign drivers have decided to go home due to a mixture of covid, Brexit and simply not feeling welcome here anymore coupled with the fact that a lot of drivers have retired in the last year as usual but haven't been replaced with new drivers because they simply couldn't train.
I think the payment is starting to reflect tbh, a lad as just started working for maccy d's as a store delivery driver, just under £20.00 a hour, just over 4k a month, not too bad that imo
On face value that sounds a good wage, but when you factor in likely to have 15 hour days upto 3 times a week, nights out sleeping in a cab etc it’s not so appealable. You are right in that a number of non Brit drivers have not returned and helped exaggerate the the issue.
Some drivers can earn good money, that’s not the issue, the issue is Supermarkets driving payments down and adding increased costs to the supplying business, meaning less money for wages. Would be happy to wager that advert was not for a company delivering for the likes of Tesco’s etc
But there seems to be a huge shortage for the companies who don't do nights out or long hours like that too isn't there? I understand them struggling to hire people for the tramping jobs and generally **** ones but there's also big issues at the more straight forward places too which I don't really understand from a wages point of view.
There is a shortage across the board, there are a whole number of reasons why, it starts with costs to get your licence, if you’re lucky and have grandfather rights (before Jan 97)you could drive a 7.5 tonne on that licence anyone since has to retake their licence. For a class 2 you have to have an appropriate licence, a CPC, medical and depending on what you drive an ADR licence, all this can easily add up to around £6k, you then have to find someone who will employ you, but guess what most who will pay bottom dollar. Added to that the way they are treated etc. In short there is not much appeal to people to encourage people to take the leap
Yeah but you'll get that in any industry. I don't know which I'm questioning more here to be honest. The validity of the photo which isn't on headed paper or quite why anyone drives for them when we all know there are tens of thousands of hgv driving jobs on more money.
