Not suggesting I'd have the stamina for it, or the desire to if we aren't playing well, but I know there is the odd person who does. Quick calculation I reckon it would cost slightly over £3500 - that's an ST for the home games, and a bit of beer and snap money. Then for away games you've obviously got the ticket, travel (sort of based it on an advance train fair average), and again a bit of money for food and beer. If you're just going straight to the matches and straight home, maybe sharing a car with two or three people, then obviously it's going to be significantly less expensive, but football for me has always been an all-day affair.
Not everybody lives in Barnsley so would pay more/less petrol/diesel money for some games. If we all send you our postcodes and average MPG, can you work it out for us?
If you said season ticket was £325 and could budget on £10 spend for home games, average £50 for away ticket and travel. £25 spend on those trips =£75. Up to £2.5k I guess
Ay it's a bit pricey for at least 3 of us on here. The Blackpool and Charlton games are going to cost me a bloody fortune. Is being a proper fan based on how many games per season you go to or how much you pay on a quid per game ratio? If it's the latter can I join the BBS elite despite my pathetic posting figures?
Season ticket: £325 Average diesel cost per home match: £60-70 Food and beer: £10(if I don't stop over) I don't even want to work out how much away matches cost, but Bournemouth has so far cost me £86 in flights, £25 in hotel, approx. £20 in train fare. approx. £20 match ticket. And then whatever I decide to eat/drink on top.
Sorry it slipped my mind that some people have actually managed to escape Barnsley! Don't think I could just go to a game without making a day of it on the lash, I've gone to a few away games where I've drove and didn't particularly enjoy it or spend that much less. There's nothing like alcohol to create an atmosphere. Over the last few years though I've ended up spending over £200 in some cases for some away games - combination of expensive walk up rail fairs and possibly not knowing when to go home but it got me thinking for what I can potentially spend in two away games I can go and sit in an all-inclusive abroad for a week! The away games we've gone to and thought "i bet it's a good night round here" and ended up staying in a hotel then having to buy another train ticket the following day as the ones we had were only valid for same day return hasn't helped bring down my own personal average cost of going to an away game!
You must have a very good job mate, that's a lot of money in anybodies book multiplied by all the homes games and maybe the odd enticing cup match.
It pays the bills and pays for my habit(BFC) but we all wish we could earn a bit more! I'm also mid 20's and single, that helps a lot
Bloody hell, spent some brass over last 40 years then !! Also 8 days in Isle of Man for pre season in 1993 !!
i do most games on train and drink about 8 cans on way down 6 cans on way back, between 4 and 8 pints before and after, full English in a pub, take away for on train on way back, match ticket, train ticket, pin badge, program, season ticket, couple of training top, and a jumper, and spent just under 3k last season, already spent £420 for this season looking at ticket stubs match tickets averaged out at £24 each for away games last season
