Let's be honest, Saturday didn't go to plan, the players will want to quickly get that out of the system & prove a point. What happens if Morecambe turn us over, do we worry, are bothered or still put it down to early season settling??? For me I couldn't give a toss about the cup other than to build confidence at this stage, Ipswich is now the one to focus on. We've been crap on the opening fixtures for years, but wins & points on the board, with a new side, will give everyone hope, just hope it's not too long in coming.
I see Morecambe as a free hit. I wouldn't be totally surprised if we struggled with them because it's what we do. We lose the first away game and tow with a lower league team in the cup. It'll be a good game to try one or two different players and hopefully take a bit of momentum into the Ipswich game. I think we'll see quite a few changes.
Instead of retaining championship survival if that was the choice? All hyperthetical of course, but if we go down getting back up will be difficult.
I absolutely agree Archie......but I am a bit selfish at times and absolutely loved those 2 Wembley days out last year. Don't fret pal. 4th bottom and a Wembley appearance would do me. But I honestly think mid table is achievable.
if we go down to Morcambe that will speak volumes ... and for me will tell exactly the downwards direction we are going in.... Looking at the other teams in our league via the internet and social media... and having watched the channel 5 hi-lights I am struggling to identify 3 teams we can finish above. Major changes at Oakwell are required and sooner than later... we are in a complete mess and have been for quite a while now.
0% for me. I want BFC to win every game they're involved in, but the League Cup is no great loss, in reality.
That's exactly right. Both results had little bearing on our season, thankfully. The Northampton game was the direst of last season, for me. And Hecky hinted at further experimentation after Saturday's game. I think that Ipswich will be of more relevance as to whether we have the makings this season.
It's just an extension of pre-season for me. A high-intensity training game, and a very welcome one at that. I'm glad we've got it, I hope we win, but I don't particularly care if we lose, providing we get through it without any further injuries.
Last season we started the season by conceding 4 at ipswich and losing at home to Northampton in the cup. The season we got promoted to the premier league we lost the first leg away at Rochdale.
It'd be nice to actually do something other than lose to a lower league side in the league cup and would be a confidence booster going into the weekend.
One of very few games I can get to this season, so just looking for them to put a decent shift in. Win would be nice, obviously, but I won't be bairnin' on here if we're beaten. All the in-laws are Morecambe fans, mind, so I'd get some gip if it goes their way.
We've made major changes - you really cant read too much into the opening game In any case take a quick look at last years opening results Newcastle lost, we lost , Rotherham started better than us Brigton only drew You have a much better idea after 10 games - but even then with a new side it can take longer to get going How can you possibly be sure which sides are better or worse than us after 1 game?
Burton & Millwall maybe.... but Sunderland definitely not. But maybe Bolton and Forest.... there may yet be hope fella.
I asked a Notts Forest fan about their win against Millwall and he said... " A good win yes, but totally undeserved. Play like this, and we'll get thrashed by stronger sides. But we're a youngish team, need to gel and develop a style of play. But still after what transpired last season, especially on final day, the importance of 3 points from games like these, where we were rather poor, could matter a lot come May next year. " I agree with this and it sounds very similar to our scenario actually. Im sure we will also accept any wins from these early games, whether we deserve it or not. And especially in those games against other teams who will struggle. As for the Cup, I always like a good cup run but we seem to just dismiss the Lg Cup now as irrelevant every season. If we beat Morecambe we might get an Everton style big cup match in a later round, so the incentive is there and we should be playing our best squad.
