Quite a few posts suggesting that people are a bit miffed that the new owners haven't immediately splashed some cash.

Given that "the plan" is part of what attracted them to us, and that they said in the presser that they wouldn't be spending crazy money, there seems to be quite a distance between reality and some people's expectations.

"Modest investment" is a word that was used prior to the deal being done, but I haven't a clue what that really means in terms of pound and pence, but I do hope that it's an improvement on what we've previously been spending on wages and transfers.

Question is, is "modest investment" going to be enough to alter our course this season. Will it either get us further up the league table next season, or if we get relegated, bring us back up next season?

What I'm implying is that maybe some people are expecting too much too soon. It might be that we raise our sights a bit, but we're still shopping in the same places and any small improvement won't be to pull us closer to the richer clubs in this league, but merely to have a fighting chance against the fellow strugglers.

Question is, how much more would we have to pay out to attract and keep good championship players? Also, would it guarantee anything considering which clubs are in and around us at the bottom?

Problem with a lot of our fans is that they’re very quick to try and spend money that’s not theirs.

A lot of people see billionaire owner and assume it will be like all the other billionaire owners. I thought it was clear from the press conference this would not be the case. Personally I would just be happy for reasonable investment in the infrastructure of the club and not to feel like we are being run on a shoe string anymore.

I would like to see them invest enough so that none of us can say that we got relegated because they didn't invest enough.

Agree with that however regardless of whether we had been taken over or not it was and is clear that investment is needed now. The risk of not investing to save our championship status is too high.

Never ever going to please everyone, and everyone now as a voice through social media. At the end of this window they'll be some that will say that we haven't spent enough.. and some will say we've spent too much. Lets just see what happens next week. But the only test that matters will be where we finish in May

Suppose the only problem is it's still a gamble. You could throw a few million at it and still go down.

Correct & if one was to play devils advocate & each team in the league invested a ball park figure of say £30 million pounds each , which most people would think is a serious investment , would at the end of the season 3 teams still get relegated ? Answers on a post card please

But to be fair, we were told, by Hecky, that there is significant money available to spend regardless of the takeover. Having said that, I was always doubtful the club could do enough in January to turn things around (current results continued would probably see us relegated). Still hoping but still doubtful.

    But what's "significant"?

It might be significantly more than he's had before, but not significant enough to get in the right people to turn our season around.

This is the point of my whole post really.

What do we class as modest investment.? We've signed Moore and Pinillos. We are told we offered £850k
for Manzala and circa £300k for Oxford keeper Eastwood. Add in whatever we are going to pay Mahoney in wages ( if
we get him) plus as rumoured A.N Other Premiership loan player, correct me if I'm wrong we could have been splashing out a collective £2.5 to £3 million. When was the last time we saw Barnsley spending that amount of cash in the January window.?

I'm pretty sure Alan Blah mentioned "massive investment" the other day in an interview.

You have to be careful what you say because some people will run away with it.

I don't know. That's the point of my post. No one knows, yet some are finding grounds for disappointment.

Exactly so if we throw 5 million at it and still go down thats like a 11 million loss effectively

Or could it be that the owners have totally left the recruitment of players to people or individuals at the club?

I can't see the new owners being the problem.
They will want Barnsley to stay in the Championship.
My thoughts are that we now have a problem at the club of getting players over the line.
Not just this January but also last summer.
    I hope I'm wrong.
But evidence so far is indicating that I'm not.
