....due to massive overspending? Apparently when asked about QPR's financial stability in an interview yesterday, his response was something along the lines of "I didn't tell the board that we had to sign Chris Samba". Yet virtually every club he has been at have ended up in an absolute financial pickle. Paolo Di Canio's stock as a manager seems pretty high at the minute, yet it recently came to light that Swindon could also be close to admin. Yet most people seem to focus their attention solely on the board in such situations. Thoughts?
If a club cant afford a player then the board shouldnt sanction the move, all any manager can do is ask.
I'd say primarily the board, but its also the role of the manager to consider the long term future of the club. If he implements a strategy of signing ageing players on big contracts with no development value on the gamble of short term success then he also carries culpability. But I suppose ultimately the board have to approve such a strategy. You could argue managers are in too precarious a profession to do anything other than be short term
qpr have been spending stupid money long before redknapp came on board. but they can afford it to be fair.
to be fair to harry. Tony Fernandez asked himto compile a list of players he would love tohave in the team,Chris Samba was at the top. Harry turned up for work and Fernandez said ive got you a player,Harry was shocked when it was Samba.
They can't afford it though, Fernandes can. But when he loses interest the club will be left with huge debts and an unsustainable wage bill. In fairness to Redknapp Tottenham are one of the best run clubs financially in the Premier League (which really surprised me).
Can't blame redknapp for Portsmouth. They spent a lot, were relegated - well after he left, and went into administration. They then came out of administration - and continued to spend and spend. Hence the mess they are in now, admin for a second time and due to go bust. Ridiculously ran club, which has been financially mismanaged for all of the four plus years since redknapp left.
Theres more than Fernandez behind QPR, they'll not go under.Pompey as triff said have been run abysmally.
I really hope QPR get relegated, and then get relegated again. They're making a mockery of the game by taking on contracts that they know for a fact they are unable to sustain.
