When it comes to signing players? With the signing of Brek Shea, it poses the question as to whether the manager gets a full say over what players we bring into the club. It seems strange that we've had about 8 players all from Stoke in the last 4 managerial eras. Wilson does seem pleased with the recruitment of Shea, but how much input did he have in it? Just a thought I've had and certainly not a criticism of the management or board.
I think we're some way of having a technical director/coaching setup which is the popular structure abroad. I don't doubt that Mansford will have talked to Danny about Shea, so probably his "idea", but I would expect Danny got the last say - but if someone offers you an American international winger, bit of a no-brainer really.....
It certainly wasn't a criticism, both Shea and Butland were great signings. If there's the correct balance between the manager and technical director or director of football or whatever, then im all for it. I just dont want our club to go the way of Newcastle for example, who appointed Wise and then Kinnear to take away the managers ability to decide what players to bring to the club.
DW said he was fully aware of Shea's ability.Although out of the game Danny still went to games watching players.I would say 100% his choice.
I would have thought Wilson is the one that identifies a range of potential signings, and it's then Mansford's job to go out and attempt to sign them.
I think it would be Danny's decision. If not then the signings Flicker made surely were not Mansfords.
As mentioned above, I think the players are probably offered to the manager and its his decision if he wants to take them. I very much doubt they force players upon the manager. Although The Don did claim in a meeting that he signed C Davies and that book claims that Howard and Kell were signed without Richie Knowing
