I think that Howard's come into his own since McPhail left. The midfield is far more balanced without one-trick (leg) Macca, allowing Howard to bustle forward and get into a position to score goals in a style reminiscent to a certain Mr. Redfearn. 'Was unlucky with injury at the start of last season, but once Burns left he took his opportunities well and showed flashes of his potential with 5 goals from midfield. The great thing is he's still only 23 and has many years ahead of him - how wonderful would it be if he could become an Oakwell Legend in the mould of Redders, serving our club for eight long (and hopefully successful!) seasons? We haven't had a player like that since and I think that Brian definitely fits the bill - please Mr. Chairman, act now rather than later and we shall surely be rewarded?

RE: We sold him then..! I think that Redfearn's departure had more to do with the player's personal ambition and wanting another crack at the Premiership whilst he was still young enough. He wasn't as prolific at any other club he joined since leaving us. I'm sure you'll agree that eight years' service at any club is no mean feat by today's standards, and Redders gave his all every time he pulled on that red shirt, so we can't begrudge his reasons for leaving.

Redders left because he was club captain and his wages were half that of several other team players. He asked for a wage rise to be in line with the rest of the squad and the chairman refused.
RE: Redders left If that's true, it's disgraceful. However, paying players beyond our means in the past has led to the financial situation we're in today - not saying that Redfearn wasn't worth it 'cos I think he was, but perhaps we paid other average/mediocre players too much at Redfearn's expense.
I said before the season started that he would be our most influential player. We have got a well balanced, athletic team with lots of spirit and self belief. I just wish a few of the negative ones on here shared that same belief.
hes a bit mint people might think Mcphail leaving is a bad thing but its actually improved our midfield. Togwell holds while Howard can get forward and show his Redfearnesque class.
RE: Howard, best player at Barnsley I agree that Howard is well on his way to becoming our 20 goal a season midfield player which can be sold on in this league for big bucks. If he helps us stay up and scores between 15-20 goals. Then i think we would struggle next summer to keep him when a huge bid comes in for him. Does he only have a year left ? If so he should be given a 3 year contract now.
In my opinion only 2 players have gone onto bigger and better things in my time.... David Hirst Arjan De Zeeuw
