Can we pay £8000 a week, or did we have to adhere to a wage cap of £5000 a week after falling into administration ?

I'm not sure how long these rules apply for.

we're not showing progression if we can't hang on to our better players though. it's all well and good bringing the likes of Anderson in but if we can't offer our current players the bizz...

I agree, we have to be able to compete in this league. If we are unable or unwilling to pay more than £5000 a week then we're going to struggle for any quality in the team.

We have to speculate to accumulate.

Don't know mate to be sure, lots of more informed folk on here could put you straight on that one, but for Christ's sake he should be paid his worth and for sure hes worth the moneys hes asking for IMO....One of our better players and so should be rewarded as so....

We speculated to accumulate before and that ended with us in League 1 in Admin. The rules are a lot stricter now we'd be kicked out if we did the same thing as before.

There's being over cautious, and there's being irresponsible. All I'm saying is there's somewhere in the middle of these spectrums where we gamble a little.

We look at the risk, and if everyone feels it's a risk worth taking then we have to take it to compete. We ended up in League One and Administration because we were totally irresponsible.

We need to keep tight finances.
It's alright saying yeh sign him give him this. We have a tight financial structure at Oakwell. 5 grand a week is max we can pay a player.
So we stick to that. Reason we cant improve our finances is down to stay away fans. Cryne said himself if we had another 3 thousand in on gates we could challenge for a playoff place.
To put us in financial struggle just to pay Howard 8 grand is stupidity.
He's not worth it.
if he wants to go let him go in my opinion we wont be able to replace him with someone such as him but we can buy a good first team midfielder aswell as centre foward for the money we get for him.
He's not that chuffing good.
Just cause he scored at Liverpool he thinks he is gods gift.
he scored 14 last season yeh.
7 or sumit wa penaltys.
Stop talking nonsense about finance. Cryne and co are doing a great job.
Becuase potentially we could go down with Howard in team and go to leauge 1 then be back in same Nonsense.
I for one will be furious if that happens.

If we are that prudent, why did we waste money on Mossto, Christianssen, Odejayi and Co ?

£3000 extra a week = £156,000 a year, 3 year contract = £468,000 compare that to money wasted on poor signings

Cryne said himself if we was to go down last seasons we would of been in a terrible financial situation.
Never mind Paying howard 8 grand a week on top of the stupid signings such as odejayi mossto etc.
Thers a wage structure in place.
Why dont people see that.
It's simple
its inevitable Howards gona Go
he wont settle for 5 grand a week
So he can jog on for all I care.

What if other players have clauses that match their wages to the top earner at the club?

All of a sudden an extra £4k a week for Howard starts to look very expensive.

People do see that there's a wage cap of £5000 a week, and all they're saying is that they don't think it's enough to be able to attract enough quality in the side to compete in the Championship.

Proof will be in the pudding when we try and attract a decent striker.

Average Championship wages are £210000 a year............

Which is just over £4k a week.

The wage cap is based on a % of turnover not a maximum that can be paid to an individual.

That's the latest figure from Delotte.

He gets what he is worth.

He's not even ranked in the top ten midfielders in the Championship.

Take away his penalties and you have an average player.

RE: Howard is THE best Midfielder in this league

No way.

Average at best.

Da Silva is a much better player. If Howard is that good he would have gone before now
