Premier League side Bolton Wanderers are set to step up their efforts to sign Barnsley captain Brian Howard in the next couple of days after their attempts to sign Michael Tonge from Sheffield United were thwarted. Bolton boss Gary Megson bid £2m for 25 year old midfielder Tonge who has been at Bramall Lane for eight years. Blades manager Kevin Blackwell turned down the offer though and Megson will now set his sights on Howard, who scored 14 goals in 2007-2008 and should be available for around the £2m mark. If Howard does make his way into the Premier League, Reds boss Simon Davey is likely to replace him with another left-footed midfielder. Republic of Ireland international midfielder Alan O'Brien could arrive from Scottish Premier League side Hibernian. 23 year old O'Brien who has five caps for the ROI- the last of which coming in October 2006 in a 1-1 draw with the Czech Republic in a Euro 2008 qaulifer- joined Hibs for £350,000 from Newcastle last summer, but has failed to shine for Mixu Paatelainen's side, making just seven starts and 22 substitute appearances. It is likely The Reds will look for a loan deal for O'Brien as it is unlikely they will be willing to pay what Hibs did last summer. In recent weeks, Hartlepool, Swansea, Blackpool, Carlisle and Preston have been linked with O'Brien.
Regarding this O'Brien Don't know much about him but if he can't cut it in the Scots Prem don't see how he could in the Championship which is a higher standard
RE: Thats it then ! colchester v scnuthorpe better than celtic v hibs falkirk, gretna, st mirren, kilmarknock and all the other ***** as good as in anyone in championship?? I'd say the above would struggle in league one
RE: Regarding this O'Brien Ahhh, I guessed you'd probably think he was crap. Bet you're delighted. Who don't you shout abuse at? Ronaldo and Tevez no doubt. Or maybe you're an Owl eh?
RE: Regarding this O'Brien Pardon part timer? This is a forum for Barnsley fans i.e those who go to the games and where did I say he was crap?
Might be another Glavin...you never know Ohh how I wish...yes I know he's Irish but he came from celtic another well known scottish outfit (no one shout Alex Neil at this point please or you will shatter my illusion!)
RE: Regarding this O'Brien You are funny James. Are you a stand up comic or something? The part timer quip - brilliant delivery, intelligently thought out and passionate. I'm humbled.
RE: Regarding this O'Brien No humour intended - just stating a fact Three to four home games = part time supporter simple as that maybe you would see where I was coming from in my criticsm of Odejayi if you actually saw him play once in a while
Boys, boys....if I knew this was gonna start a fight.. I don't post often but I don't want to start this 'part time' supporter debate again. It is a cheap shot and a lame damnation of us lot who cannot get to see the boys every week like me but have been supporting them longer than the age of half the population of this board. end of debate.
RE: Boys, boys....if I knew this was gonna start a fight.. You are correct to a point....but fans who are stumping up for season tickets every summer are vital to the club unlike those who go to three or four games a season No offence but how can someone really have strong opinions on the players - positive or negative - if they hardly seem them play? In the case of the above poster he is a **** of the highest order so you are wasting you time defending him for his part time support
RE: Boys, boys....if I knew this was gonna start a fight.. On O'Brian "Don't know much about him but if he can't cut it in the Scots Prem don't see how he could in the Championship which is a higher standard" "No offence but how can someone really have strong opinions on the players - positive or negative - if they hardly seem them play?" "**** of the highest order" Your words.
Sick of hearing about the moaning tw*t. Wish something would happen, sign a contract or **** off and get two players bought with the cash. Not a few million spent on 15 players.
RE: Boys, boys....if I knew this was gonna start a fight.. Nice one. Having said that he is quite an entertaining little ***** though. I'd like to hear his thoughts on supporting Barnsley when they were in the fourth division and couldn't buy a goal. But his opinion is worth FAR more than every other **** that doesn't have a season ticket, as if that makes his views right. Childish - but then again I'd expect little else.
