BARNSLEY FOOTBALL CLUB STATEMENT - BRIAN HOWARD Posted on: Mon 29 Sep 2008 DURING the last close season, Brian Howard through his representatives made it clear that after a successful season personally, he felt it was the right time in his career to move on to a new challenge. Of course, the Club was keen to retain the services of its captain who has been a fans' favourite since his arrival on a free transfer from Swindon. The club has been prepared at all times to offer new contract terms to Brian to keep him with the Reds but his representatives have declined that opportunity. On Monday September 22, 2008, the Board of Barnsley FC met with Brian Howard and his representatives.Patrick Cryne and manager Simon Davey were also in attendance. Brian confirmed directly to the parties present that he wished to leave the Club and did not wish to discuss a new contract with the Reds. As a consequence the Board resolved that, in the interests of all parties, Brian Howard would be allowed to leave the Club at the earliest opportunity, subject to Barnsley FC receiving compensation. Further statements will be made as appropriate.
RE: presumably because............. What did he say at the Supporters Trust? That he would have liked to have spoken about a contract? It's academic now anyway
so a player has decided he no longer wants to play for the club and the clubs at fault for getting shot?
No Players leaving club's isn't why people would choose not to sign for us. But why should they risk their reputation?
They should play for who's paying them though. The dip in form's no coincidence. I told the lads who were with him last night to get the little **** out of my sight. I don't think they got it.
absolutely.............. the statement will have been agreed by both sides to avoid any litigation-if he didn't want to discuss a new contract then we HAD to sell now
that's the one thing I don't understand.................. it's been obvious this season he's not playing at his best-the 100 mph pass to Leon when he'd come on proves it-Leon had no chance to control the ball -and it was deliberatelyintended to be that fast-and then Howard chelps at him for failing to control it when he was just trying to make Leon look stupid-and he's not looked fit
if he wanted to be scouted by a top side surely he should have been playing his heart out to get noticed

Is there only me that thinks- fair enough?
He's played for us now for a good portion of his career. His career had moved on with us and we've benefited from that- 1 promotion, one FA Cup run, and two relegation dogfights.
Thats in no small part due to Brian Howard, but his contract was up in with 12 months and he's decided he wants to cash in on his performances and get a decent contract somewhere else. He's done his job for BFC. We've already got a replacement- don't forget why we signed Diego Leon.
None of this should come as a surprise. I just hope we can salvage a good deal, including a player coming the other way.
