Is it just me or is there anyone else that thought he wasn't actually that good. Undoubtedly had talent but his brains and attitude didn't come up to scratch. I'd have happily sold him for circa 1m last Summer and reckon the only reason he was still at Barnsley is that no-one else rated him. Don't get me wrong over the past 3 seasons he's been a decent servant but during 2008 he's been average bar a couple of performances and since the Liverpool game has clearly shown he doesn't give a toss about the club and thinks he's worthy of much better. My prediction is short term any move will be good for him and we'll see the old Bri, but can't see him making the grade at a "better" club until he realises he's nit as good as he thinks he is and drops the attitude.
who's going to score the 14 goals he scored last season to keep us up then? yeah **** off Brian ya fecking ****
Agreed. No club put a bid in for him over the Summer. That should tell the pro Howard brigade something.
We need a midfielder who's going to score double figures to replace him I'd LOVE to hear who you think we should sign in his place?
Not quite what I said but eloquently put. Would Brian score this year with his "new" attitude - doubt it.
RE: "the pro Howard brigade" You're only alright if you support the correct players and manager.
There'll be a list issued soon as to who we should get behind and who's a big time charlie pisshead big for his boots arrogant ****** **** on the fans not that good anyway **** who we should be glad to see the back of.

It's very easy after the event to criticise. But you're spot on, Matt. Much like the club's season last year, the cup run made headlines for BH and helped gloss over some pretty major flaws. I think we had the best out of him, but I'm sure he'll go and do a good job for whoever picks him up. My only gripe is we didn't cash in in the summer, but maybe there weren't any concrete offers on the table.
Summary; busy, box-to-box midfielder, who could take a penno and had decent shooting booits. Err...that's it.

No we don't. We need the strikers to put the ball in the net and sort out a reliable penalty taker. Higgnett was a much bigger loss to the Club than Howard will be.
RE: "the pro Howard brigade" I never called you that.
You obviously think that a player who doesn't want to play for us is bigger than the Club.
How about supporting the Club for a change instead of slagging them off at every opportunity.

RE: It's very easy after the event to criticise. Top assists last 2 seasons, top scorer last season, 2nd top scorer 2006/07.
No loss at all.

who's going to be creating the opportunities for the strikers then? Devaney who never gets a cross past the first man Colace and Anderson who are not creative players Or the most over rated player we have in Diego Leon?
RE: It's very easy after the event to criticise. Didn't say he wasn't, but we're Barnsley, not Barca. If a player decides he doesn't want to play for a club any more, then off they go. No point keeping them whatsoever. Take whatever money we can get and find someone who's interested in wearing the shirt.
Leon On his day an absolute world-beater, or Watford-beater as the few that made Vicarage Rd last season will testify. Not sure where he plucked that performance from, but if he could do it week-in, week-out.......
RE: It's very easy after the event to criticise. Yep it is.
But Howard wants away.
He doesn't want to play for us anymore and if a bid had been made for him in the Summer he would have been off.
I wonder why no bids were made in the summer, and Crynes throw away £10m comment would not have stopped Clubs contacting us to ask what we really wanted for him. It's the way football works.

RE: It's very easy after the event to criticise. We seem to be assuming that Howard's taken this decision (if indeed he has) in total isolation from any external factors at all. He just woke up one morning and decided he was out of here - that seems to be the accepted view.
God forbid a player might actually need managing.
