BRIAN HOWARD will be offered a £10,000-a-week deal to make him the highest-paid Barnsley player ever.

Skipper Howard, 25, starred in the Tykes’ fairytale FA Cup run and Everton, Portsmouth and Sunderland are on alert.

Barnsley boss Simon Davey is desperate to keep the £3million-rated midfielder, who has a year left on his deal.

Howard said: “I would be delighted to talk about it.”

He will miss the home clash with Hull tonight because of an ankle injury.

More magic Sun journalism. Sheron was on 10k a week with us. And if it's true, paying someone that amount is the first step on the slippery slope back to...... well, it doesn't bear thinking about.

Agent beginning to worry that no Prem club is going to come in with silly money for Brian so having to look at championship clubs again
In an attempt to keep Brian in the shop window and also make sure he is in a good negoitiating position agent mentions to the Sun -off the record- that Brian is to be offered a 10K package to extend his current Oakwell contract -thus showning how great a player he is

    - bet I am not a million miles out

    Highest paid ever?

Dont think so. The seasons after the Prem, some of the shittest players to pull on a red shirt were getting that much.

"Sheron was on 10k a week with us"

That's one of them there FACTS. Not sure how anyone knows that, but everyone thinks it's true. I don't believe he was, but I've no way of proving it.

i think it comes from QPR chairman said he was on £10k on football focus after they sold him and they couldn't afford to keep him. i think they may have asked him to take a paycut and he wouldn't accept. he didn't wear a hat despite been repeatedly w*nk and I'm probably talking absolute ballacks. again.

I heard the QPR chairman say that on Radio 5

So I'm sure he was on 10 grand a week at QPR. However, we gave him a 4 and a half year contract, significantly longer than the deal he was on at QPR, so I'm sure the amount he was on per week at Barnsley was a lot less then 10 grand.

its a lot of money but, its better offering that much to a pleyer who has proven himself at this level and in our team rather than offering it to an un-known player
