don't agents always say that? it means the interested clubs think they have to offer more to prise him away-my guess is he'll go-for a good price mind you

well i would accept anything from 1,000,000 upwards, especially as he has 1 year left on his contract now

£1m would be scandalous given that he's one of, if not the most prolific goal scoring midfielder in the league this season. I doubt Davey would let him go for anything less than £2m.

Can you help me understand something

What are players supposed to say not to upset the posters on here?

Brian has said he wants to extend his contract with us

That is taken to mean either
    a. No one else wants him or
    b. He wants more cash here so he can get an even better deal when he moves

either way the conclusion seems to be he wants to leave and we should cash in and get what we can - even if we have to take £1Million cos he isnt really that good anyway and we can do better with the money.

This for a midfield player who has scored more goals that all our strikers put together.

Now if he had said he wants to leave and play in the prem next season as he cant see getting there with us I could understand it but he hasnt.

Doubtless if he signed a new 10 year deal tomorrow on the same wages as he is currently on he still would be doing the wrong thing as he would be showing no ambition.

Just wondering what a player is actually supposed to say

    theres two possible scenarios

    either:

    a) he stays, longer improved contract
    b) he moves on, we cash in

i wouldn't mind either of the scenarios, as he deserves to move on if he does so. although, id love him to stay with him being one of the clubs pivotal players. witusernameart

    Thats no good at all

If he doesnt say anything all he is doing is waiting for his contract to run out so he can move on a free - doesnt even want the club to get any money from his transfer value.

    If I've read it right

He was asked the questions at the PFA Awards Dinner in London. He answered the questions as honestly and diplomatically as he could. Had he simply said nothing, or replied "No comment", then he would've still been slated. The poor lad is in a 'lose, lose' situation, he's damned if he says anything and he's damned if he doesn't.
Personally, I hope he gets a new and improved contract and stays with us for at least another couple of years.

That was what I was asking

No matter what he says it seems there are some who will twist his words to show he should leave

Personally I am very happy he has said he wants to discuss a contract extension - I just cant believe that him saying that seems to be the wrong thing for some people - hence my original question

RE: If I've read it right

I think he'll probably improve his current deal and extend it by a year, and will be sold at the end of next season if we don't go up. A good deal all round as Brian gets his improved deal, and we don't risk losing on a free in 12 months time.
