I definately want Howard to stay

he's a class player who has a hand in every attack and without him Barnsley's chances of staying up would be severely reduced.

However, AR entered contract negotiations, presumably because he intended to stay, and look where that ended up. I am still hopeful though because Shepherd obviously wanted to get rid of Andy while Howard is the best player on the team.

that's what I was getting at. Problem is as soon as there's a problem like that GS will be guilt free, "oh we tried but we just couldn't agree." Then he'll point out that his contract expires at the end of the season and we're lucky to get a fee. If it were up to me I'd try everything available to get Howard to stay. Letting him go without a fee at the end of the season would be well worth it if he's played his part in keeping us up.
