repect for been so honest! Hope he keeps the armband now might have another redfearn on our hands....nowhere near as good but still the nearest we are likely to have
He was very honest. He said: "I'm a bit fat & quite tired. I drink too much & can't get it up after about 5 pints. I think my best days are behind me. I'm worried about the escalating conflict in the middle east. I need a new kettle. These here Playstation 3's are just great. I have a dog called Max. I've never been to Malaysia." Very honest. Hats off to him, I say.
I like how he explained why he kept losing the ball so easily in the latter part of the game. He was honest enough to say that he was knackered, his legs were like jelly and he simply didn't want the ball when it was passed to him.
he said STAND IN skipper Brian Howard has revealed his delight after captaining the Reds for the first time.
Speaking exclusively to www.barnsleyfc.co.uk, Brian said: "I was delighted and it was a good thing to have. I did not expect it and I did not see it coming really. The lads gave me a bit of banter in the dressing room as soon as the manager told me I would be leading us out.
"I did not think I had heard him right really but I was buzzing from it. It was a great feeling and really gave me an extra kick in the backside I needed. I was back in the centre and I think I gave everything I could. It was pleasing to get the win - I am one out of one as skipper - and it would be nice to keep the armband.
"There was no reason. Whenever Paul (Reid) is injured the armband normally goes to Bobby (Hassell), Antony (Kay) or Paul (Heckingbottom) but he gave it to me. I was delighted and it was nice to know that the gaffer thinks that highly of me. I think I have the respect of the lads in the dressing room and it gave me more licence to moan a bit.
"I was out on my feet at the end. I covered every blade of grass in the last two matches and was suffering a bit from cramp in the end. We had already made three subs and everybody kept giving me the ball when I did not want it in the end! My legs were like jelly.
"Everybody gave absolutely everything. Daniel Nardiello came off absolutely knackered at the end - that is the most I have ever seen him run in a game and I think he deserved man of the match really. It was a great goal and it has given us the confidence we need to stay up".
Brian added: "We need the win. We actually started pretty well at Ipswich and they scored with their first counter attack. We were all over them and then they broke away twice, Nick saved one and then they hit us with a goal before half time. It was all us n the first half.
"We were back in it at 2-1 and then managed to shoot ourselves in the foot. It wasn't bad defending at the end - it was no defending! There were no defenders there to defend. It was poor but we were lucky that we had the chance to put it right so soon after.
"We had a real rollicking from the gaffer after the Ipswich Town game and we managed to put that right against Birmingham".

Daniel Nardiello came off absolutely knackered at the end - that is the most I have ever seen him ru n in a game. hmmmm. Start of a new era for Nardiello or another false dawn? I'd love to see him change his ways - he has the talent, if he worked that hard every game then he would be a top championship striker.
Howard should be our captain from now on. He seems to have influence in the dressing room (even though it is sometimes misplaced(pint) ) and he is the heartbeat of our side. Still our best player and the captaincy may just make him act a bit more responsibly during the week. Thought he didnt have the best of games on Monday but nobody can deny that he took to the captains role like a natural.
I agree Give him responsibility and see how he reacts. It might be enough to persuade him to sign a new contract also.
good point. I would keep him as captain to be honest, because I dont think Reidy is up to playing regular first team football at this level, so to have someone like him as captain seems silly. Also, from the interview, I seem to think that SD does have the backing of the players, although i get the impression that they dont like him as much as they did Ritchie. But that may be because Ritchie probably let them get away with a lot of things. Now the players are realising that they cant get their own way, they may just be giving extra now compared to when SD first got the job. Having said all that, im probably talking ballax.
He should be captain because he said the right things to the press? OK then. I thought he had a pretty poor game on Saturday.
RE: He should be captain because he said the right things to the press? Being captain doesnt mean you have to be the best player on the park every week. As i said earlier, he didnt have the best of games but he played a captains role. Got through the work, did the ugly things and was talking and organising throughout the whole 90mins. And he has respect and influence over the squad.
RE: He should be captain because he said the right things to the press? I don't see him as captain material. I doubt we have anyone who could be a half decent captain. As for respect, the team don't even respect who's in charge of them, nevermind the captain.
RE: He should be captain because he said the right things to the press? Howard or Kay are the only real leaders we have.
RE: He should be captain because he said the right things to the press? I don't think we have any "leaders" Anywhere within the club. I'm sure come next August he'll be elsewhere anyway.
Personally I do I think he could lead by example and it could be a masterstroke making him captain if it persuades him to sign a new contract. He is the most talented player in the squad in my mind (Nyatanga aside) and therefore it is natural that most of them will look up to him. Giving him responsibility may mature him a bit and develop him as a footballer.
