Brian Howard after the Plymouth match says "when we got someone sent off so early and then they go and score from the free kick it was more or less game over"......... NO IT ISN'T !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Like Cloughie used to say - it only takes a second to score If it was game over why didn't the ref blow the whistle and after 5 minutes let everybody go home If Howard has got this attitude then he's got the WRONG attitude Its not over until the ref blows the final whistle...........and Davey needs to tell him just that !!!!!!! (
You were going on about Scunny - Sheff U. If Sheff U had scored direct from the freekick after McCann had been sent off, 1-0 would have been a huge mountain to climb. Theres nothing our defence could have done to stop MacLean slamming the freekick into the top corner, and once that had happened, it was a huge mountain to climb. We used the right gameplan, kept it tight and then missed our one moment to equalise when Anderson hit the bar. That goes in and the game is completely different. As usual, there has been a huge overreaction to a 3-0 defeat.
You have to consider circumstances. A 3-0 is a heavy defeat, but a red card after 3 minutes, is quite the change in circumstances. We defended admirably for 60 minutes, played some cracking football 2nd half according to Plymouth fans, and then hit the underside of the crossbar to equalise. That knocked the stuffing out of us, and they got 2 late goals. If we'd lost 3-0, with 11 men for 90 minutes, and been outplayed, then fair enough. But I think the reaction on here, condemning Nyatanga and Davey and as usual whinging beyond belief, is ridiculous.
It's not like we got played off the park though Ten men and we gave it a go. What more could we have done in those circumstances? I've heard a few Plymouth fans saying that we're one of the better teams to visit Home Park this season. To say we lost 3-0, I'd say thats a massive compliment.
It's pretty easy to be complimentary to the visitors when you've stuffed 'em 3-0 It's a bit more difficult when they've taken the points.
I must say... It did strike me as somewhat defeatist when I read it... Yes it was a tough situation but if your captain thinks it's game over at 1-0 down it can't help your prospects of a comeback...
I don't see what he's said wrong, it's a pretty fair comment really, if you're 1-0 down and have a man sent off in the first 6 minutes of any game the chances are you're going to get beat. I don't think there's anything more to be read in to than that.
RE: How does he always get the rough end? Every time we lose a game he's always questioned about his Captain's roll. Maybe not from you, but from a lot of people on here.
RE: It's pretty easy to be complimentary to the visitors when you've stuffed 'em 3-0 Magnanimous in Victory ......... oh yes.
Why is it wrong to comment after match? If he`d sat down after 6 mins and said **** it then you`d have summat to moan abart. The brass neck of some people.
Read and understand *****Do not read into it anything else than what is writen****** This is something which is often done on this message board I am not questioning Howards ability as a player or as a captain i am not even singling him out of the team for special attension What i am saying is that he shouldn't be thinking - game more or less over after only 4 minutes !!! As for the comment in an earlier thread ............'the chances are you're going to get beat'...................yes that comment is true but what Howard is saying is slightly different ...........a player especially a captain should never think after 4 minutes............GAME IS MORE OR LESS OVER No wonder we can't win away from home with this mentality.......its pathetic and its something SD needs to investigate
I found it quite interesting that SD made no comment last night, seems he sent Howard to face the firing squad.
