Telegraph blog (and before anyone starts I do not read it) on why southeners live longer than northerners. http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/cultur...why-southerners-live-longer-than-northerners/ Some of the comments underneath are disgusting.
Ah good old Daily Torygraph...think I got to the 5th comment before someone started blaminmg immigration!
I particularly liked the "When industry collapsed, the state stepped in to fill the gap:" The State having nothing to do with the collapse of any industry - especially not the mining one for example What happens to people like me born in the north and lived there for their 20 years but have lived in the south for the last 30 years - does that mean I live 6 years longer or does being born in Barnsley condemn me to an early grave
Aside from the fact that it uses statistics for Birmingham to generalise about the north, note to way the article uses death stats in talking about the poor LIFEstyles of those of us alive up here, when so far as I know death statistics are only available for those who are, erm, dead. And its likely that most of the people dying now were from the generations who worked in heavy industry in physically demading jobs damaging to health. But no, because the older generation die younger than their southern counterparts, those of us who are alive must be fat lazy slobs with poor diets and lifestyle choices according to Mr Mount.
I should imagine that the average lifespan in the black country/north has risen since the death of the old heavy industries.
