Barnsley v Huddersfield Town (play-off semi-final)

After securing the point they required at Swindon to secure 4th position, we travel to Oakwell tonight to face Andy Ritchie's Barnsley side in the Play-Off Semi Final first leg.

Barnsley finished 5th in League One this season, one point behind Town, and will be looking to secure what would be their first win of the season over Town before the return leg at the Galpharm Stadium on Monday.

    Form

Town's end of season was a mixed bag of results, a 0-0 draw at already relegated Swindon Town was achieved by a much changed side. Previously, a 2-1 defeat at the Galpharm to Yeovil Town was the last League game, David Graham's early goal not proving enough to gain the points.

Barnsley managed a last day win at Walsall to secure their play-off position, goals from Daniel Nardiello and Marc Richards enough for the Tykes. Barnsley's overall recent form has been excellent, last tasting defeat on the 1st April - at the Galpharm Stadium to Huddersfield Town!

    Last Time the Sides Met

On the 1st April, Peter Jackson's men vanquished Barnsley 1-0 with a Gary Taylor-Fletcher goal proving enough for the win. The goal came in the 55th minute in front of Town's biggest crowd for five years. It was GTF's second goal of the season against Barnsley, as he scored the late equaliser at Oakwell earlier on in the season. Late on in the game, substitute Nardiello was sent off for two bookable offences.

    Previous Encounters

This season, Town have taken 4 points off Barnsley - a 1-1 draw at Oakwell preceding the above win. However, the previous season the Tykes took all 6 points off Town and Town famously lost 7-1 at Oakwell during the 1998/99 season. Over the years, Town have a better record in head to head meetings - winning 27 encounters compared to Barnsley's 24 in all competitions, with 13 draws.

    One To Watch

Barnsley's player of the year is their number 1 Nick Colgan. Colgan is a full Republic of Ireland cap, and joined the Reds in 2004 from Stockport County. He endured a difficult first season at Oakwell, losing his first team place midway through the season and being loaned out to Dundee United, but this season he has re-established himself firmly as the number one keeper.

    From the Dressing Room

Town welcome back Andy Holdsworth from injury (groin), and captain Jon Worthington from suspension as Peter Jackson finds himself with a fully fit squad to choose from.

For Barnsley, Andy Ritchie welcomes back captain Paul Reid from suspension and striker Paul Hayes, who was rested over injury fears at Walsall on Saturday. Ritchie does find himself without the injured Neil Austin and Matt Carbon, and both are also expected to be out for the return leg at the Galpharm Stadium on Monday.

pathetic proof reading-it was 2-2 at Oakwell

and a cr*ppy 3rd minute of injury time equaliser as well when we had Carbon off injured
