Would we want him back to sure up the DM role?? He says he's signing for Yeovil this week... Should Mellon/Mansford step in?? I suppose its hard to do that without a full time manager at the moment... I would be happy to have him back down the well!! Thought??
The first incarnation of Colace, in a shot. Quality on the ball, great positioning. Classy and the opposite of a 'toiler'. It's like people who didn't appreciate Michael Carrick and would rather watch Hargreaves flinging himself in to tackles whilst actually being far less effective.
Better player than Dawson or Kelvin if he can concentrate his talents and more dynamic than Fox. Definitely not a toiler.
Hargreaves was a good player, but for me he was overrated, and Carrick underrated. Hargreaves ran around rattling in to tackles and won a lot of balls, but statistically far less than Carrick. Carrick is a phenomenal passer of the ball and dictates the tempo of games. But he is also brilliant at breaking up play, yet hardly ever needs to make a slide tackle. Makelele was the same. The best defensive midfielder I've seen is Xabi Alonso.
Hargreaves was always first choice in whatever team he was with. Including England when fit. Only injury stopped him from being a top player. Carrick is a bit meh. That pprobably means I know nowt about football, so be it.
In a lot of teams that didn't win things though. Not getting on at him, he was a good player but Man Utd only started winning things again when they signed Carrick (and can't win a game at the moment without him). And the ignoring of players who can pass a ball is the cause of why we are so garbage at international level. Until we retain possession we'll never do well. All in my humble of opinion of course mate, and as a confirmed passing football addict!
Hargreaves was a better player than Carrick is. I do not see what the fuss is with Carrick. But as you say Andy, it's all about opinions. Regarding Hugo, I would rather we found a left back out of contract. There must be at least one free agent who can play there. In fact, I'd play the young lad Smith there. Kennedy is the most ineffective player we've had since Frank Nouble.
On the basis of his performances in his final season with us - absolutely not. At the time, I saw Perkins as a huge upgrade on him.
When he arrived in 2006 Man Utd hadn't won the title since 2003. Since then they've won 5 out of 7 and the European Cup. He has been the mainstay in central midfield throughout that time. Could be coincidence I suppose but Ferguson rated him very highly. Since he got injured this season they've been totally exposed. I just think he dictates the way they play and gives them such stability.
Danny Welbeck has been part of that Man Utd side, but he's still not a great player. Gareth Barry is a much better player than Carrick. Again, in my opinion.
