I know this isn't gonna stop until the end of August, but on a positive, we've not many more players left to sell!!?
Shows we are doing things right. When nobody is interested in any of our players that's the time to start getting concerned. However I personally think we are now at that crucial " tipping point" whereby the sacrifice of our better players only to generate a stockpile of cash could lead to us losing our Championship status, which after all the hard work that has been done to get us to this point would be a real shame. We have to hope that the four new players we are probably bringing, in will blend with what we've already got to at least preserve our Championship status and that the owner and board back the manager and for a season at least send out the message that none of our players are for sale.!
It's also the 1st time someone has been in for our player when they have 2 years left, the club can set the precedent with this one, he's 2 years to run so get ready for a massive asking price. Yes, we have been doing things right & let's hope we get bids for players this time next yr, meaning they have performed, but they will still all have 2 years to run, so perhaps we have learned something out of all this..????
I would imagine with the inevitable Yiadom departure we surely have to say enough is simply enough with regard to defensive sales? Even if the offer is good, we leave ourselves beyond threadbare.
When you empty the larder what have you got to eat. Need to keep some established players or league one looks inevitable
Cant wait for the first time someone buys a player we buy when theyve not even kicked a ball in a league game. That would be taking the piss to a new level. Just using our scouting and player findings skills. Lol
Different circumstances, but I'm sure that's how we signed Martin Devaney back in 2005!! He'd left Cheltenham for Watford in July and never played, joining us in late August or something like that.
its times like this when you thank bsly council for holding on to their share of the land...the rate pound signs flash forth and are readily snapped up makes you thankful houses arent starting to go up on the car park.
You're right about him not kicking a ball for Watford before changing direction and heading up north to sign for us. He had played plenty of Football League games for Cheltenham by then though. What a signing he proved to be! He was a proper hero at Whaddon Road and part of a successful side. I used to enjoy watching them when I lived nearby.
Scored in their League 2 (division 3 at the time?) play off win against Rushden and Diamonds didn't he? I was in with the Diamonds fans as they were my local team
Yes, he got the first one - here's the report: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_div_3/1967943.stm Blimey - 15 years ago and I bet he's still got that body!
