Brown also revealed he has been in talks with Sheffield United about striker Billy Sharp.

"There is interest in bringing Craig back to the club," Brown told BBC Radio Humberside.

He added: "[Sheffield] United have got a plethora of strikers, we have asked about them all, including Sharp."

Any deal for Fagan would be a loan with a view to a permanent move in the summer.

Brown said: "If the financial situation was right then I would be interested in bringing Craig back.

"It has to be a loan, Derby are trying to tie a permanent deal in behind it and that's what the contractual situation between the two clubs is all about."
