We know the 24 teams who will be competing for Championship honors next season, but how much do we really know about some of our new opponents and what have they been doing during pre-season so far? This is the first of four parts where we will take a look at the teams making up the Championship in 2006/07 to give you a better insight into what they have been up to. Barnsley were the last team to make up the 24 teams competing in the Championship. A dramatic penalty shoot-out victory over Swansea City meant that Barnsley would join the league. Last season, all three promoted teams from league 1 managed to survive in the Championship but the promoted clubs will soon realise the gap between both leagues. Barnsley will have to adapt quickly if they are to survive in a very competitive league. Barnsley's star man is midfielder Stephen McPhail although there is concern over his future at Oakwell. The player has been linked in the past week with a move to either Hull City or back to Leeds United but no decision over his future has been made yet. If Barnsley are to survive then McPhail is the sort of player they must strive to keep at the club. Barnsley will have to strengthen, there is no doubt. Barnsley had an impressive home record in League 1 last year losing only one home game and if they can make Oakwell a difficult place to visit they may stand a chance of survival. Ultimately, Barnsley are going to make money available for Andy Richie if the club are to survive. The current squad is not good enough and I am making the Yorkshire club one of my three tips for relegation. http://www.hull.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=20578
