The number 7 shirt if for a winger.

Not a striker, always has been, always will be.

So Togwell as lost his number. It would look like Hume has been signed as a winger probably. Still waiting for all the squad numbers to be released.

Hume has not been signed as a winger, and the number is a complete irrelevance. Was Cantona a winger?

And on top of that, was Togwell a winger!? No. People read too much into everything. 10 is taken by a midfielder and someone else probably has 9 already, therefore 7/8/11 become the obvious options to a front man.

Kevin Keegan, Kenny Daglish two great wingers.

Mick Butler? Ian Evans? John Hendrie?

All wore our number seven shirt, none played on the wing.

Hendrie did but not at Barnsley, did he wear the number seven shirt elsewhere and so kept it when he moved?

I should've been a bit clearer in my post.

All three wore our number seven shirt, none played on the wing for us.

I'm just suggesting that Hendrie may have worn the number seven because he was a winger and kept the shirt when he moved to Barnsley because he liked it.

I do think that Hume will be playing up front though.

Huckerby 6 at Norwich but didnt play centre half! Might show Daveys thinking but many are probably just reading too much into it. He likes 7 and Togs Im afraid is on way out

well said numbers don't have the same meaning regarding where player play on the pitch, especially seen as the barnsley players are allowed t pick what number they want, means they'll all be wearing there favourite number
