    Could you get 500 new homes on the Oakwell ground and surrounding lands?

    If so, and you could flog them for £200K average, you'd have £100M?

    New York Stadium cost £20M.

    And it's sheltered, comfortable and accessible! :)

    NewYork stadium opened 10 years ago. Doubt you’d get anything like for £20m now and then you would need land to erect a new stadium on.

    You wouldn't get that for the sale of the land though. If you take the 200k figure you'd have to factor in the cost to build.
    It would still be a fair whack though.

    Lovely friendly little club, Mr D. Although my feelings may be coloured by a memorable afternoon I had there about five years ago with a (now sadly departed) friend who was a boxholder at the time. Refreshment may have been taken! :D

    It's a good set up there. Laura's uncle had his wedding there. Great day and facilities.

    I’m not 100% sure but I think Rotherham. Council we’re also ‘quite accommodating’ with the purchase of the land. Doubt that would happen with BMBC and the current ownership situation. If we settled for anything like the capacity of the New York Stadium it would raise serious questions/ accusations about the ambition of the owners whoever they may be. I believe anything less than a 25k capacity ( irrespective of current average attendances) would be unambitious.

    As I understand it, I think the New York Stadium is a form of modular construction whereby it could be expanded to provide further capacity should the need arise. I can see no reason why a similar arrangement wouldn't suit BFC. But back in the real world, I doubt the current owners would ever make the up-front investment for such a worthwhile project.

    Who owns the land BMBC and the Cryne s . Who would like to see the club go to the wall and use the land for housing . BMBC are the Trojan house in this 3 way game of poker, but only time will tell

    Personally, I am pleased that BMBC own part of the ground, as it's sort of protected against the money men who may wish to sell it for a profit. [I'm not suggesting anyone does think along those lines]

    Except that in my hypothetical scenario BMBC are happy because the owners construct a purpose-built stadium which guarantees the continuance of professional football and more potential council taxpayers are attracted. ConLee are happy because they trouser £50M+ profit.

    I see your point, but I have to say, let's not forget that the current stadium is a purpose build stadium.

    Right. I've got a plan. Firstly we rename the ground in honour of a local celebrity - The Dickie Bird Oakwell Stadium.
    Bit of a mouthful, so we then shorten it to the Bird-well Stadium. Then we put houses on the current site and find an area of the borough to reconstruct the stadium where it's close to the motorway for better transport links and in an area where the council will let you build absolutely bloody anything.

    Can we think of a possible location?
