I always said Macken would get Davey sacked.

Davey struggled to pick a team without Macken in it , how many strikers couldnt form a partnership with him? 433 today was a joke, it should have been Gray & bogdanovic up front, with wingers supplying them.

So the fact we conceded 8 goals in 3 home games

is due to picking the wrong striker

I knew I didnt understand football - thanks for explaining it

To be honest, as a striker being known for a bit of good link up play now and again, not exactly enough is it? Especially when it is link up play that leads to nothing. Should never be first on the team sheet.

    Agreed with both your points

I said today that the formation was one of accomodation but also agree that it was much more than picking a singular player that lost him his job.

Dont remeber too many people saying we needed a new defence in the summer, yet we did need new strikers, Macken has gone from a goalscorer to a target man to a link man what next ? is he in the team because he has a good head of hair for a 32 year old ?

Where have you been mate? Weve been banging on about needing a centre half as cover since Souza was released and also a left footed full back.

I agree that Macken has been a factor. The problem has been Davey's obsession with players like (and particularly) Jon Macken. When he signed another deal this summer people were telling me that it was to be a back up player - no chance! He was the 1st name on the teamsheet and today was a perfect example of the problem. Playing a formation to accomodate the likes of Macken instead of 442 (as promised) with the best players playing in their best positions. I have'nt commented about the manager situation up to now, but the decision to get rid is definately the right one. I feel for Davey tonight because losing your job isnt much fun and he's certainly worked hard and tried to succeed. He's also contributed to giving us some fantastic days during his time at the club, FA Cup run etc. However he must be the most stubborn bloke that i've ever known with his formations etc last season and falling out with players who looked decent and not considering them even when we were desperate. He has constantly played players out of position - made Boggy look a poor player today when he was covering at left back for much of the 2nd half and when everyone seemed to agree that Boggy and Gray would be a great partnership. I also think that having appeared to have coached JCR into a decent player, he has now ruined him. He was nailed on for player of the year early last season until Simon gave him a free role, a couple of new contracts and the captaincy for a couple of games (whilst Moore was on the pitch FFS!). His relationship with the fans was also so poor that it was never going to work. The Stronger Together business doesnt work when the manager is doing things like banning fans from watching training. When they advertised that fans could watch the team train for 1 day in the school holidays I was amazed. When I was a kid we used to be down at Oakwell every day of the holidays watching the team train - it was great. Davey put a stop to that - i'd love to see it return.

Like I say, I feel sorry for the bloke but he can't have any arguments with the decision. Now is the time to invest in a decent manager - and please Patrick.........dont promote the development coach, we need a new man with a decent profile this time.

The defence today wasnt cover it was the first choice, apart from el manure who should have gone in the summer. As for Kozluk i got slated on here for saying he was a liability 18 months ago yet he is still in the team.

Doddy - play Boggy up front and he'll score goals. "Macken's got a nice touch" etc etc is all rubbish. He doesnt score, he never has the ball under control (its always stuck under his feet), he gives the ball away more than anyone in the team (i'd love to see the stats but I know i'm right), he isnt mobile enough, he never gives a defender anything to think about......... I could go on forever. Play Boggy UP FRONT and he'll score goals. Plus, we've now signed the perfect partner for him. Boggy is a goalscorer - Macken isnt - strikers are paid to score goals.
