As I was the last manager. I want him to remain at the helm for as long as possible. But I will discuss the games I've attended, the tactics he employs, the players he selects etc. I will share opinions on all things BFC, because I'm opinionated and I love this club. As I did under the last manager. This will lead to praise and criticism from me, depending on events, as it did under the last manager. I hope he goes on to become the best manager Barnsley FC has ever employed. Like the last manager. I'm pretty sure the majority who post on here think similarly. There are no dissenting voices, the club is being backed wonderfully by its fanbase, as recent attendance figures suggest. Having opinions, worries, doubts, fears etc, perfectly natural for folk who love and care about the club. Not evidence of folk wanting shut of a manager. Three points tomorrow, hopefully a good performance in gaining those points and we can start looking up again after the disappointment of last weekend's local derby defeat. You Reds.
Well said Andrew, we as fans want the best for our team and our club. We all have differing opinions on tactics, formations and starting line ups but ultimately we want our team to win. I will rant when we lose and praise when we win but one things for sure this manager is boring the living daylights out of me at the moment.
Sorry, mate, but you're totally wrong. Just for starters:- Andy (springvale red) wants him sacked. http://bbs.barnsleyfc.org.uk/showthread.php?232983-Open-message-to-the-board retired red wants him sacked. http://bbs.barnsleyfc.org.uk/showthread.php?230397-Sack-the-useless-idiot They're entitled to air their opinions. But to try and claim there's no one wanting him sacked is wrong.
I stand corrected (partially). I know there has been the odd voice of dissent but they are still very much in the minority. I think most are still behind him even if we are critical.
I don't have an issue with anyone wanting a manager sacked, whoever it is. After all, they're entitled to share their beliefs, just as I am if I disagree with them. But to claim no one wants the manager sacked is wrong. There could well be even more who think it. I just happened to remember their comments, that's all.
I don't doubt that there are some who want him sacked, I've seen the posts, but what I was saying was that to claim most want him sacked was wrong. I could be wrong but from what I hear and read the majority are still behind him. Like you I respect the opinion of those who want him sacked, I just don't agree at this stage.
Well, I obviously don't see every post. But of the posts I've seen and recall, I would never come away after reading the forum thinking the manager was under pressure and folk had the daggers out. Far from it. Of course, there's much debate on his tactics and such, as there will always be on here when we're mid table in the third division playing football that - I'll be kind here - isn't exactly free-flowing and exciting to watch. Sad that I felt a need to start the thread really. That I felt pushed to state the obvious.
There were dissenting voices directed towards Danny Wilson during our promotion season of 1996/97 & Andy Ritchie during 2005/06. It's nothing new. I believe you're right, the majority do still back Lee Johnson.
You're right. As absurd as it may sound now I still remember Danny getting abuse just after he took over from Anderson and some of this did carry over into the promotion season. Daft when you look at it with hindsight but that's the nature of fans. I hope LJ goes on to have the same success as Danny.
I see no reason for not allowing folk to get things off their chest, whether that be demanding Lee Johnson be sacked, questioning his team selection, complaining if they're not happy with the team's displays, claiming we're more likely to be involved in a relegation battle rather than mounting a promotion push, etc.. I can only speak for myself, but I'm happy with the gaffer and am patiently waiting for us to hit the sort of consistency with our performances that would move us up the table.
I'm bang with LeeJay. He's passionate, studies the game, and has some interesting ideas. His players appear to have a great rapport with him, and seem signed up to what he is trying to achieve. I also have the feeling that the owner, administration and team management are pulling together. I don't know better than Lee about tactics, formation or starting lineups, and I haven't read anything on here that convinces me that anybody else does. We have a young squad with evident (if not consistent) talent, most of whom are still learning. I'd sooner be watching them than plodders (O'Grady), one-footed players (Kennedy) or players with no spirit (Cranie). It's going to be patchy, but the game we played against Everton, and to a lesser extent against Swindon and Gillingham shows what we are capable of. Consistency will take a little longer. But we are being entertained (at least at home!).
I think we'll do well with LJ, it maybe that I am ever the optimist but I do actually think we'll come good. However he has to learn from his mistakes, there's a naivety in his tactics, but hopefully & surely he has to learn from recent games, no way should we have lost to Blackpool or Doncaster
He hadn't a yard of pace, and usually ended up drifting out to the wing - so we had nobody in the middle. No coincidence that Dave Jones let him go, and he's scored just twice since he left us. He tried, and seemed a decent lad, but his shortcomings are there for all to see.
