Why , if you dislike the area and Town centre in particular, do you continue to live here?
Again if you dislike the council and its employees, why not **** off somewhere else?

It really is easy to move out of Barnsley, leave the place if it depresses you so much, or and this is aimed at Tyrone1, why not stand for the council and try to get things changed, they even give you expenses so you are not out of pocket. Thereev why dont you stand as well , but your expenses may be smaller , because I dont think they class selling the Big Issue as real work!

Simple answers to your problems !!!

I did and life is a good. Really good. I'd recommend it to anyone.

I'd read that another 230 BMBC staff are to go, then I hear the same week the BMBC Chief Exec has just had a 10k wage. I hope this is not true but I reckon it probably is.

Not so much expenses nowadays for being a councillor, but around 13k a year basic plus expenses ...join a few committees and you can be earning 20k+ part time

I did keep in contact with Jim, I went to watch the Rugby World Cup final at his friends house up the road. I regularly texted him normally on a Sunday morning when I first saw the footy results. We've left Henderson, Auckland now so I've not seen or heard from him in a long time. We moved 1000 south to the other end of the country so I've lost touch with a fair few good people in Auckland like Jim.

He's a nice bloke, he spoke highly of you.

so you must be on the south island then, Jim says it's stunning there, parts of the Lord of the Rings was filmed there I believe.

We go back a long time me an him, first met him when we were 7 years old, (1956), never had cross word in all that time, might be hard to believe now but back in the day he was very successful with the ladies.
Any way off to bed now, keep enjoying life out there mate, I hope to get out there some day and sample it for myself.

Haha, yeah that's pretty hard to believe!!!!

Apparently they've filmed some of the next hobbit close to where we now live in Dunedin, the entire country is breath taking. The South Island is close to the size of the UK but with only the population of South Yorkshire, once you're out of town it's not uncommon not to pass another car for well over half an hour. You soon realize how over crowded the UK is.

If you do ever make it to this beautiful country we've got an seperate en suite guest room under our house with views out over the Pacific Ocean that you'd be more than welcome to use. As you can imagine though the guests are coming thick and fast.

I think the majority of complaints are about the state of our town centre not the borough, which were blessed with good countryside and relatively cheap housing.
I also avoid going into town unless I have to (matchdays / occasional night out) and will think nothing of driving to Leeds, Wakefield or Sheffield if I need anything I can't get over the Internet or supermarket.
Barnsley town is dead on its arse and you've only to look at how surrounding towns councils have coped, irrespective of political party, to see that Barnsley council aren't doing us any favours.
I won't move out the area, I love where I live but hate the state of the town centre. I've worked in Leeds for 23 years and wouldnt move up there, where they have opposite. Slum areas for living and fantastic / vibrant city centre. Unless your minted and can afford to live North Leeds.

Why should I have to leave my home town because it is a shlthole..... The people leaving should be the ones who have contributed to making it so...... Mr 'long serving' Houghton for one. Ands let's face it he ain't gunna leave while he continues to pinch a very good living.
