I can understand the board waiting before offering Ritchie a new contract

I think that they are waiting until the end of the season to see if we survive or not and if we do go down then they can just let him go at the end of the season.

In my opinion this is the sensible thing to do because if he is given a long term contract and then it all goes tits up then we are in trouble. If more results like yesterday follow then i think that Ritchie will be down the road because i think that tactics are his weakness because he got it badly wrong yesterday and it will be interesting to see how he responds to this and how he copes in future game such as this. I am also concerned with his reluctance to sign another defender.

Rubbish. It hardly gives AR and RH and for that matter the players the basis of building the squad with confidence no matter what happens. If we do go down this year, I'm sure AR will have made some mistakes along the way, like it sounds he did yesterday. But to let him go if we get relegated is not, for me, the way forward.

I think he showed a lot of bottle yesterday

He had the confidence to play 342 and give a chance of getting goals.  If we'd have gone 441 we'd of probably not let in 5, but had no chance of scoring.  Or do you think we should have just settled for 3-1 and given up?</p>

A bit harsh to say tactics are his weakness when we've just had a promotion season with only ten league defeats.Sometimes you have to hold your hands up and say the best team won.

    Exactly...

let's face it. They have players with Premiership expierience whereas this is the highest most of ours have played...and in honesty, some will not cut it at this level..

Tactics have always been his weakness and it was madness to employ the tactics that he did yesterday. If we go down then he should be on his way and i fully praise Gordon Shepherd for been sensible and not offering Ritchie a contract just yet because his tactical ability has been brought into questtion on more than one occasion and he won't get away with it this year.

They have got it spot on by waiting, if we stay up comfortably then good on them and Ritchie and Holden will have done the job asked of them and they will have earned new deals!

REWhy would they let him go if we go down?

when we wernt supposed to be in this league this season. The main reason we should offer the man a contract is continuity, no matter what we do this or next season we need someone who is whith the Reds for the long haul, and he'll do fine for me Top bloke for me at Oakwell for a long long time.

Again, Jonathan, sorry Gazzared. Rubbish. AR and RH did teh job asked of them LAST season by getting us up. The only reason for me that a new contract has not been muted is that GS wants to be able to get shut cheaply. They ought to show more faith in the manager. Having a manager in a short term contract also makes it harder to attract players as well

RE: Youre alter ego , who disappeared on Promotion.

I have only had this computer (and broadband for that matter) for a month and have only been on this message board for 3 weeks or so.

I have no idea who Jonathan is and that is certainly not my name, i'm sorry if i had offended anyone on here by critising Ritchie but i think that he is desperatley short of tactical acumen. But he is a good judge of player, can motivate the lad well and has got them playing some good stuff but he will need to be more with it tatically in this league against the really good teams!!

Do you think he got out-coached by Worthington?

GS has got it spot on, he is waiting to see how the rest of the season pans out and if results like yesterday continue because of Ritchie's poor tactical ability then he can get shut very cheaply. If at the end of the season we go down then he can get shut for nothing. It makes perfect sense to me. If we go on to learn from this and do well then by all means give him a new contract but to suggest offering him a long term contract now is just daft!!

Agree one-hundred percent with Redstar - if it weren't for AR we wouldn't be having a conversation about been relegated from The Championship 'cos we wouldn't be here!

Someone used the word "continuity" earlier - we need a manager for the long-haul not another ten years of revolving door coaches...

Contracts might not be worth the paper they're written on these days but it's the principle of it - a show of faith to AR and the lads. Long may his reign continue!
