"Barnsley FC chairman Gordon Shepherd has this week handed the Chronicle a set of statistics covering Barnsley's Championship campaign under Andy Ritchie and Simon Davey. 'The figures speak for themselves' said the chairman."</p> </p> What was them figures then ?</p>
I wonder whether its a statistical analysis of the number of times the team has been booed off under each manager. Or number of players to have fallen out with each? Maybe number of times the club has refused to talk to the media under each? Or maybe it's figures that show how davey won 11 of his first 7 games
Points per game for Ritchie and Davey Davey comes out on top. So Davey is a better manager and Shepherd is justified in sacking Ritchie. I think that's how it goes.
RE: Points per game for Ritchie and Davey Why did that need re-iterating ?</p> The trouble with that in my opinion is that if you keep reminding folk about that is that as soon as Davey's ppg average drops then you make life very difficult for yourself.</p> </p>
RE: Points per game for Ritchie and Davey These stats are starting to piss me off. It's getting like a frigging OPTA convention...or some such. I also think it's a little bit insulting to state that if we had a different manager at the start of the season we would be safe. I think Ritchie deserves better. We get your point Gordo...Davey is ace.
It's benchmark time. I'm going to look at our average points per game in March & April. This covers the following matches: Norwich (h) Sunderland (h) Plymouth (a) Coventry (a) Derby (h) Ipswich (a) Birmingham (h) Southend (a) Palace (h) Leicester (h) Ten games. We need roughly 12 points from them - obviously at 1.2 ppg. I can't see us getting 5. 8 points & below gets us relegated, is roughly the same ppg that cost Ritchie his job and would leave the Chairman with some very difficult questions to face.
To be fair ... ... if we stood side by side ... the plan view would look like my arse. 10 games to keep us up. I honestly hope Davey can do it - as I've got nothing against him. I'm just not enjoying the way we play anymore. Hats off to him if he gets the points ... off to the job centre with him if he doesn't.
