Obama being given the Nobel Peace Prize. What the hell has he done? He's been in the job 5 minutes, the war in Afghanistan is still going on, and the Yanks (as well us our troops) are still tied up in an illegal execise in Iraq. Giving the prize to someone like Mother Teresa, who has grafted among the poor is one thing, but the whole Nobel thing has now been relegated to farce.
It depends on your own personal interptetation of who/what is worthy of what is after all a man made "award"
Thats right... We need more upper middle class W**kers like Hitchins pouring scorn on the work being done to help the lowest of the low in India - don't lets help them ourselves, just make money from slagging off those who sacrafice everything to help them, nice line of work indeed.
FFS - that woman died over ten years ago.. ...after a life time dedicated to helping the poorest orphans in some of the world's most difficult circumstances. Not only did she win the Nobel Peace Prize she was beatified following her death. Now you may have scepticism in you towards the Catholic Church, you may have general cynicism in you towards the people who are highlighted to be the honest and the good of this world (after all - aren't we fed a diet of the media raising people up only to cut them down?) BUT please, as far as I'm concerned this really is one of those situations where it is very easy to try to come up with something wry and throw a bit of mud - but really, you go to India and give it all up to achieve ten percent of what she did, then turn around and give us 'the truth'. FFS.
