Obviously I'd love it, but if we show significant improvement upon last season e.g. A failed play-off campaign or only just missing out on the play-offs (finishing 7th, 8th) I would be fairly content because I feel that, while I didn't support the sacking of Wilson, we now in Johnson have a manager who has the ability to get the best of this potentially excellent, albeit small group of players, and ultimately get us promoted, whenever. However I'm not sure if the board would take the same view. If we do finish 8th-ish, but keep Johnson, then we'll be able to add quality to the group, which will have more experience and know-how, and for once not have to rebuild. Johnson has said it's a 3-transfer window job; hopefully he gets that long. So I'd just like to ask the board (as if they'll read this) that unless next season is going drastically wrong: in serious relegation danger, even worse than last season when Wilson got sacked, they could refrain from the annual manager-sacking because I feel we've got someone who could build a great group of players, if he is given long enough. I'd like to think that giving Johnson a contract until 2018 is a sign of the board's intentions to keep him for longer, but we will see! Am I alone in thinking like this, or do others think the same?
Agree. For an improvement from last season, we need to be challenging for the play offs right until the final day. If we get in them, great! If we don't, as long as we are not miles away, it'll be an improvement.
I think the same. We need to stick with a manager regardless of how it's going (within reason). I'll be pig sick if LJ isn't in charge at start of next season.
Without significant investment in the squad I'd expect a lower half finish. We finished last season 11th with a significantly better team so can't see us improving.
I just can't see us challenging for the top 2 slots. There is always a chance of making the playoffs, but would personally be happy with top half, but also better standard of football & bringing on some of the youngsters further. Assuming Holgate does leave, then that money needs to be invested in a quality replacement at the back.
I think the forward areas are more of a priority although we are short in the full back areas and may need another centre back as cover, but this is not absolutely vital right now
I don't mind if we get relegated. In fact I don't mind if we end up in the conference north. As long as we've still got a club.
I hate this league. Can't get any enthusiasm for it. The gap is huge. We need to be out of it ASAP. Also, Cryne/Mansford repeatedly tell us how we are one of the big clubs in this division and that promotion is our aim so I'll be disappointed with anything other than that.
I agree to a point. If we don't improve on last season I won't be happy but if we do, if we can see the improvement, and we can see the plan for the next couple of seasons I'll accept it. If we're still struggling in the bottom half and watching drap sterile football then I won't be happy but if this is the case I doubt LJ will still be with us by the start of next season.
I'm the other way round I'll be disappointed if we get promoted, I'd be over the moon with how results have gone this season, but gutted where in that horrible league for at least 12 months again
It's a load of ******** really. Folk saying they don't mind us not going up so long as we play exciting, attractive football etc etc. If we're playing exciting football but not winning reight often folk will get titty lip on. Not a prayer of folk saying (after a 4-3 home defeat to Oldham) "I enjoyed that exciting, attacking football, I can't wait to see us at Burton next Tuesday". We were little better than average in Danny's good but brief run of decent results (Bradford, Rochdale and Blunts) but folk got excited. We weren't anything better when we won 6 on the bounce or whatever it was shortly after he was sacked. I saw some turgid football. But folk got giddy. I did n all. We were winning, we looked like we might make the top 6. Don't kid yersens. We all want to win every game and get promoted. If we're not doing and we're losing to 'the likes of Burton' etc, no matter how nice the football is, folk will be whingeing. As it is, I see another season similar to the last. I hope to be proven wrong, but we'll need more good footballers recruiting in my opinion for that to be a possibility. Bradford and dem blades have decent squads, Wigan's looks ridiculously good for this division and you can bet that there'll be another 12 clubs or more who are all as good/bad as each other. I see us in that latter group. So we might get lucky, we nearly did last season. Fingers crossed we sign the needed players so we're in the Wigan/Blunts/Bradford group.
I'm not saying I don't want to go up. All I'm saying is if we did have another season like last (hopefully a bit better), as long as we keep Johnson to allow him to continue to bring in his own players, I won't be devastated
