    As I am now.
I've thoroughly enjoyed this season so far, under the new manager. We have a group of players playing, on the whole, attractive football and giving 100% for the red shirt. As with all players, there are times when standards drop due to loss of form or carrying an injury. I value the contributions made by the likes of Butterfield, Davies, Perkins, Vaz Te, Done, Foster, McNulty & Steele, accepting that they can't always play at the top of their game. It saddens me to read and hear mocking taunts and snidey comments directed at certain players, the sort of comments that wouldn't be out of place in a school playground. And why? Because they've not played as well as they've done previously.
I could understand if we'd had the sort of season experienced by the likes of Bristol City, Coventry, Forest & Doncaster, but we haven't. I accept some people are never happy unless they're complaining, but it still a sad state of affairs.
Rant of an old man over.

everyone is entitled to their opinion kev, but

people will realise how privelaged they've been to see butterfield when he's gone. brilliant vision, two footed, scores goals and drives the team forward. it would cost millions to replace him.

Annoying me a little at the moment - we are playing some good stuff and people don't seem happy. Some only happy when we are losing!

Many fans said "we want players who try and produce good football ", now they have that they also want consistently good performances that would see the team pushing for promotion.

I can only speak for myself

And I accept my views may probably put me in the minority these days on here and down at Oakwell. But I'm certain the self appointed intelligentsia will put me right. C'est la vie.

Im with u on this, a fair few dont realise how far we have come. We have literally sold our best player in the summer along with Hammill last year, and spent around £300,000 replacing them with lower league players that are now establishing themselves particularly well in the championship. At the start of the season looking at us on paper, I thought we would struggle this year and be hovering around the relegation zone but massive credit to hillflicker, they seem to know what they are doing. Just look at teams like Norwich who came up with players that i had hardly heard of and now have got themselves promoted and doing very well in the prem. I aint sayin that it could be us, but its a good example that spending miliions on 3 or 4 players doesnt guarantee success. All hail Hillflicker

Spot on. "WIP" takes time and quite possibly Hillcroft may have plans to freshen the side during Jan. It could mean we lose same of our favourite players, but I have confidence in their ability to bring in players that will enhance our squad. It took DW three years to reach the pinnacle, so why do some of our fans expect miracles?. The football is the best we have seen for some years, and any improvement in points/league position should be seen as a success.

Nobody is bigger than the club and we've survived losing better players in the past so i'm sure we will be fine.

    "Work in progress"

    Absolutely bang on JLWBL.

Hill has said it's a work in progress - ie don't go mental when we win, don't get suicidal when we lose.

Unfortunately it's a message that many don't want to heed as it allows them to reinforce their own prejudices against certain players - and a few play one upmanship on other fans when we do well.

Gray, Butterfield, Steele, Foster, Wiseman, McEveley esp at various stages this season have had to endure ill informed, petulant digs from both internet experts on here and the hard of thinking at the game.

But, whatever gets some people through the day.

My opinion on the players you mentioned.

Butterfield: Not as good as people are making out. But thats like saying that Cheryl Cole isn't as good looking as people say she is. I still wouldn't kick her out of bed. Butterfield needs to vastly improve on his defensive game if he ever wants to cut it in the premiership but we're not in the premiership and he's a very good player in this division when we play to his strengths. He isn't very good playing where we've been playing him since Drinkwater got injured but I doubt he'd be much cop if we stuck him in goal either.

Speaking of in goal that brings me nicely onto the man of Steele himself. Probably could have done better with a few shots recently but I don't think there is a single keeper in the land who has ever had a perfect season. He's ALWAYS been prone to making the odd mistake but I'll gladly take the amount of mistakes he's made this season over the amount of mistakes he mad last season any day. He's no better than last year, he's always shown the same ability, the difference is consistency and I think he's been the most consistent keeper in the division.

McNulty? Can't fault him. Simple as that.

Foster? He's showing the same strengths as always and making the same mistakes he's always made so can anyone really complain? If you meet a ginger woman and marry her it's a bit unfair to suddenly complain about her being ginger on the night of your 25th wedding anniversary. Vastly improved on last season due to a better partnership with McNulty. Very harsh on him to have been dropped.

Done. The only one i'm not sure about. At times he looks a world beater getting the ball and running head down past players but at other times he looks completely lost as soon as he gets near goal and makes bad decisions. That doesn't make him a bad player I just don't think he's brilliant in any one position. Perfect bench warmer for me, the very definition of a multi positional player that Hill keeps going on about.

Perkins. How can anyone criticise him? The best player that Hill has signed by a long way. Get him in the right position with the right players round him and he won't stop running and making challenges.

Vaz Te. Looks like he should be on X factor but that doesn't stop him being a bloody good player. People have told me he looks disinterested at times and doesnt see enough of the ball. I don't think thats true at all. I think he'd love the ball but sometimes we play a little too one dimensional and if Butterfield is on the right of midfield that unfortunately means that the ball will go out to O'Brien every time leaving Vaz Te stood on his own on the other side. Never seems to stop trying for me and always looks to be our most likely goalscorer. Fortunately his performances seem to have gone under the radar or i'd be worried about losing him in January.

Davies. Absolutely awful at finishing. I'd love to see the stats on how many one on ones he's missed this season, it must be into double figures. So that begs the question if he's so awful at finishing then why has he scored so many goals? Christ knows but I wouldn't drop him. The most frustratingly bad good footballer at the club.

well said that old man. absolutely totally agree. this management team are indeed changing the dna of the club. there is a plan, and I for one am well bought into it. the future is bright the future is hillcroft.
as you so aptly put it, the mocking and the snidey comments are uncalled for - they will succeed in sowing the seeds of, and creating, disharmony
