Sylvestre, who threw the acid, was also given a life sentence at Wood Green Crown Court in north London. He will spend at least six years in jail.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/london/8029007.stm

It's one of the stupidest phrases you can get Like a 'professional foul' or a driving 'crash course'... (doh)
RE: Did you read what the B@#$@#d did to the girl? Yes it's awful, hope they get a good kicking in prison the evil b*stards
Im not sure exactly how it works But I think when someone is sentanced to life imprisonment it comes with an associated minumum tarif (ie maybe six years). This must be served before parole can be considered. If parole denied then they carry on serving the 'life' sentance. This means he gets at least six years. Contrast this with an armed robber who 'holds up' post offices with a shotgun and gets sentanced to nine years in jail. After 4 and half he is eligable for early release if he has been well behaved in prison!
When you get a Life sentance it does in fact mean life. When they are released early they are released on Licence with conditions attached. This means that they can be put straight back into prison if they carry out an offence or break the conditions. You are never technically free if you get a life sentance.
