Ritchie had the chance to bring players in, but doesn't. So I presume these weren't players that Ritchie/the scouts had identified, otherwise why not bring them in. They must have been offered to the club, but Ritchie decided against. But the players we have identified and Ritchie is interested in, are generally choosing to either stay at their current club, or go to a different team. Also, what about all the trialists that we get. They are all older players returning from injury, or youngsters that can't get a look in at higher teams. Ritchie must be considering them, otherwise why waste the time taking a look at them? It just doesn't make sense that a) we would turn perfectly good players down b) none of our targets would be interested c) we would then look at waifs and strays most of whom we never follow up on I can't get my head round it.
put it this way we had a bid of 200k turned down for Windass before we got promoted and before we sold Flinders for 500k-£1 mill. We signed Mcindoe for 100k-200k. He (and togwell) wont be on more than Mcphail, Carbon, Shuker, Conlon and attendances have gone up (not forgetting Leeds and Wednesday games) meaning there should be wage money for loan players. But what can the board do if Ritchie doesnt want to improve the squad because hes "giving the lads a chance"? Hopefully the board will say the lads have been given their chance, were 2nd bottom, get some players in.
