So we've lost today, arrgghhh the world is going to end.

    Get a grip.

Hands up, those people who thought that we were going to mount a serious promotion challenge this year.

    Any takers?

Ok, how about those people who thought we were going to be in another relegation battle.

    A few, ok fair enough.

And finally, who thought it was going to be a gritty mid table consolidation?

*Poet frantically thrusts his hand up into the dark Barnsley skyline*

We've played 4 games. 4 GAMES!!! A brand new season has barely just begun, the recruitment drive has been frantic, only just getting completed late last night we the signing of Jamal Campbell Ryce from Southend, 13 players - that's not a change-a-round, thats a fecking overall of massive proportions, the board, the manager - they realised that the team we had last season just wasnt strong enough to be setting off on an embarkment, they realised the heights that this club once scaled and they, as do the fans want it back.

But, and it's a big but,

THIS IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN OVER NIGHT.

13 players, from all over the place, all over the world, coming together are NOT going to fall into place like magic, it will take time, it will take patience, it will take work.

The opening to this season has not been EASY, it wouldnt be easy for any team. But for a team who have basically been thrown together, with barely any time to find out each others strengths and weaknesses, 4 points from those opening 4 games, including a gritty performance at Newcastle is a good start, anybody who thinks it isnt and wanted more needs to get a grip on reality.

There are seriously too many people, too many supporters living in the past. This is far from the same team we had at our peaks, its no where near, we arent going to have the likes of Craig Hignett, Bruce Dyer, Ashley Ward, Arjan De Zeeuw in our team again. But what we have is a set of players who want to do well for Barnsley FC, they arent going out there too lose on purpose, give them a break and get behind them.

Simon Daveys tactics have been talked about the last few matches, some of his decisions have left me puzzled aswell. But the fact is this, he has brought 13 new faces in, he's not had enough time to mould his team, to find his BEST team and to find the best way they play. No one could do this over 4 matches, not even the best managers on the planet.

We have 42 games remaining, 42 GAMES!! That's a huge amount, we have 4 points from an opening tough 4 games and have shown much improvement from last season. I'm happy with the players Davey has brought in, as the season wears on they will start to flourish, this is a season for consolidation, for finding ourselves after a summer of frenzy, get behind the lads, its early days yet. There's plenty of promise in the squad we have together.

    UP THE REDS!

I don't think there are as many as you might think.

SD has earned his chance, so lets make sure he gets it.

Spot on, I have often thought to myself 'I'd love to be a manager one day'. And it's true, to manage a team would be terrific. But how? What with all the badges, reputations, money - how the hell, despite all the knowledge and experience is the normal everyday man meant to get into professional management.

Simon Davey has done that, he's giving it his all. Lets give him all the support in the world and get behind the Reds!!!

Going by the booing and "you don't know what your doing" chants I would say they weren't very chuffed.

All due respect, but those are MADE teams. They all had terrific seasons last term. We are in the process of building a team from scratch.

    Big difference.

    Also, we will improve. Fact.
