Not in the slightest. It's not that I think he'll turn it around, it's that I believe he already has. The turnaround came 7 games ago at Leicester when we went with 4-4-2, and we've stuck with the same formation and the just about the same personnel ever since. We lost that day, but we were competitive throughout, and we've only lost once since (away at QPR). We've only won one too like, but for my money we've been the better team in every one of those drawn matches and can consider ourselves very unlucky not to be 8 points better off. We're not a promotion winning side, we haven't got the quality in the centre of the park for a start, but I don't believe we're a relegation side either and I think the results will come. However, and this is the point of the post, I don't buy the argument that there is no alternative to Flitcroft. Whenever people say they believe Flitcroft should be sacked they are met with the same old question, "who would you replace him with?" The answer for me is simple: Danny Wilson. You'll get some people who have no idea what they're talking about telling you that he's done nothing since leaving Barnsley. I don't suppose he has if you don't include promotions, play-off places, mid-table premier league finishes and cup wins. But in the real world he has a better record than the majority of managers in work. A win percentage of 40.61% and an average points per game record of 1.48, which works out at 68 points over a season, tells its own story. I don't want Flitcroft sacked, I don't believe he should be, but if you do, there is definitely at least one very good alternative.
You think he has turned it around? I cannot agree that one win seven is proof of anything any better. If you are seeing better football, maybe that's true but some of the football under Keith Hill was impressive but we were only heading in one direction and I think it's the same situation now. Sorry to disagree again about your suggested replacement I don't think Danny Wilson is the man, too many years out of the top two divisions. How about Darren Ferguson? He would be my choice and think he could work with our board to good effect.
Always worth reading and one of the few reasons I still check the BBS out most days however frantic work is
Darren Ferguson? Firstly I think he's a c*ck of the highest order and would never want him anywhere near our club, but luckily he probably never will be because Peterborough would probably demand an astronomical fee to release him from his contract.
Why do you say lovely personk of the highest order? You know him personally? I think making statements like that says much more about you than Darren Ferguson.
1. I agree, John. He is a c@ck. 2. Why on earth would he come to Barnsley, who are bookies favourites to go down, when Peterborough are near the top of the league and will probably challenge for automatic promotion. I do like their style of play though. We'd see a few goals for and against.
After looking at it today and what i posted earlier, i think he should have till end of nov to get us on track to 25 points. Create that target now instead of january. If he cant do it then id be happy with wilson coming back. Hes got unfinished business here imho! I still think if hed stayed we could have gone straight back up and stayed up! But we will never know.
Me neither I'd just like more than 2 attacking options. But, this is how it's going to be without massive financial investment in the squad imho.
Re: Me neither We're paying Norwich half of Fox's wages. He's not on peanuts. A waste of money right there. And it wouldn't have cost extra to play Mellis central. Nor would it cost us much more (maybe in appearance fees) to give Reuben and Digby a chance instead of the same old. So there.
