I thought everyone had a decent game, but i believe George Smith produced his best performance. Special mention to Conor Hourihane. Three assists (would've been four had Winnall not strayed offside), another goal and another great display.
It was a great way to end the season. Goals aplenty and all the kids having good games. I think today's performances will make it difficult for LJ to let any of the youngsters go. Agree about Smith, best game for us today.
Agree with all that. I'll pick out Digby. I know it was only a short cameo but he looked class. He's clearly got something about him and if we can just keep him fit for a decent amount of time we might have a good player in him.
If that is our back four at the start of next season, I won't be unhappy. There was energy and a positive approach today, thought the system worked, due to the willingness of both fullbacks to push on whilst Pearson offered cover. I was also delighted Winall got his goal for the effort he put in. Lot's of positives, but we won't play a team bitterly disappointed at having just missed out on the play-offs and have just booked their holidays, every week.
Smith's play for Winnall's goal was superb. Didn't panic when the ball came to him with the whole ground baying him to shoot, dropped the shoulder, beat two men and delivered an inch perfect cross for Winnall's head. Class. Seeing him on the same pitch as Kennedy today proved to me that George is miles ahead of him already!
Smith put in his best performance of the season. I've said that about four times this year. Which shows he's improving. And LJ admits as much in his press stuff. Digby looked good again. I thought he was ok last weekend too. He needs to believe in himself again. Hell of a player in there. I think LJ will get it out. I hope so anyway. And Holgate just oozes class. Still think Bree edges the lot though. We've some players here. Lets help make em, not break em.
I said he should have been involved last season. But then, I think I'm a better full back than Kennedy.
You missed seeing me buy a round today in Redfearn's, mate. I accept it was only two coffees for barnsley66 & me, but it still counts! They didn't have any Horlicks, sadly.
Not a bad side but for next season we just need those 2 or 3 players who can make a difference, otherwise we'll just finish in the same position again.
Best performance of the season saved for when it means nowt. I'd love to see that back four all next season, but we have to remember that three of them are kids and they'll have their ups and downs. But today showed that we don't need many playes for next season, just two or thee quality players.
Smith, Holgate, have done great this season and I'm confident will have great futures and be a big part of next season. Bree and Abbott shorter runs but show they also have what it takes and show class. Oates, Maris and Digby still need to gain more playing time but again show potential, but need more consistency. However if we think that playing the majority of these young kids week in week out and winning something I think we are misguided. They will do a great job when game time is managed. Let's not forget how young they are. In this league they will get 'owd manned' and have spells of inconsistency. Some will be crucial to our season and will play a big part. I think we need to strengthen our squad with experience and keeping hold of these young lads will be a fantastic position for the near and longer term future.
We were playing against a 10 man Rochdale team who looked like they'd got there heads already on the beach for their holidays. If we only bring in 2 or 3 quality players we'll be treading water around mid table again. We need about 6 decent players to come in at least.
Was good to see the Bradford walkers get a lap of honour . Great effort by them and a decent amount raised
