Have chosen not to live in the decimated heartlands of south Yorkshire. In fact, some don't even live in this "great" country that she built.

I'm not sure you are entitled to an opinion when it doesn't smack in the face every day.

The subsequent 13 years of government did very little for this area as well.

I don't think they will either.
Trouble with our town is complacent councillors/mp's. There's absolutely no competition.

I am. The answer is that yes, you are. I don't agree with redarmy990, far from it, but he's got every right to hold and air his opinion (as Voltaire might have said, if he were alive and a BBS member). Once you publicly state an opinion, of course, it's only reasonable to expect others to try to contradict it or to persuade you towards their opinion. That tends to be where things don't go very well on here. I suspect today is going to be one such day.

I left for that very reason. Many of us had to because there was nothing for us in Barnsley. The alternative was to stay there on the dole and hang around the house all day being a burden on our families. I'm not a defender though by any means, completely the opposite in fact. It formed my politics for the better, that experience.

Its going to be a long hard slog to recover from the disaster that was the last government. In my lifetime we have had two Labour governments, both ended up been a complete diaster for the whole country

It is because I don't feel that Britain is all that great anymore that I decided to move overseas. Fed up of paying my taxes to a Labour government that found it right to "encourage" generations of families to live off welfare because they were better off doing that than working (I used to live in Salford after leaving Barnsley, so saw it every day of my life), fed up of the attitude of many people that found it OK to litter everywhere, fed up of petty crime (e.g scratching my car or breaking a window "for fun") fed up of teenagers and even younger kids effing and blinding all the time, fed up of feeling unsafe walking down the street at night, and fed up of the weather.

I don't have to worry about any of those issues any more. So, no, the current problems don't "smack me in the face every day" because I got off my arse and did something about it. It was a huge gamble. It was a big wrench to leave family and friends, but I've never looked back.

So, it's not ironic, I left because of what Britain became under Labour rule, not the Thatcher years when I was growing up. I feel that I am as entitled as anyone else to have an opinion on the country I still love and miss terribly at times, thank you very much.

Many would say that Thatcher's encouragement of a country where greed and the individual was the most important thing contributed massively to what went on after that. She stood on the steps of the Conservative HQ and said "We've got a lot of work to do in those inner cities".

And she didnt. She left the poor ****ers to rot. The mechanization of jobs left millions who would have worked on production lines, out of work. Profit over people every time. Not a world based on compassion, love and forgiveness, but a skewed SOCIAL DARWINISM where the fittest survive, namely those who had more money in the first place.

She started this rot and the useless neo-liberal politicians of all stripes who followed her have carried it on.

I wouldnt wish death on her, but by hell im glad she not alive anymore.

I' personally am not having a go for trying to better yourself indeed good luck to you .
My gripe that you stick up for the witch against the vast majority of the people of Barnsley ad state that she is not to blame for turning our town from a thriving almost full employment community to a all most desolate cold place where no one seems to want to reside and then blame the one person that predicted just what the Tories were going to do then when they did it they blamed us, Incredible
