I gave my mobile number to Barnsley council on monday morning

Since then I have had 12 spam phonecalls from all parts of the uk from companies and organisations i've never had any dealings with. Prior to giving Barnsley council my number I had had about 2 in the last couple of years (from companies I have dealings with).

Coincidence or is data being sold/stolen?

 

More fool thee for giving them your number. Have a Premium no. installed for your home and give evrybody that - At least tha can keep em talking and get paid for it!!!

 

I've got an email domain that receives any email regardless of what you put before the @ - what I do is put the company name here when I'm filling in forms - I got an absolute sh*tload of SPAM to the comparethemarket@ address so that must be one way they make their money

They're not allowed to pass on your details, not without your permission, so if it think they have passed on your details and that the sharing is 'unreasonable' then you should make a complaint. If you don't get anywhere then try the local government ombudsman.
