Cruising round the Caribbean. Much rather be watching us in the JPT, obvs... Anyone been to any of these & any recommendations for visits in the main ports for a day? Barbados Grenada Isle Margarita Curacao Aruba Tortola St Kitts St Maarten Antigua Yours, One smug b.stard.
I hope you and your wife have a great time, Liam. All the best, mate. Had you been honeymooning in Flamborough rather than the Caribbean, I could've passed on a great deal of information!
Reads like a cocktail bar menu that Nearest I've been to the Caribbean is Kingstone....Barnsley Have fun you smug git
Spent a fortnight on Nevis about 15 years ago and we took the ferry across to St Kitts (both are about 2-3 miles apart at the closest) for the day. Basseterre was a nice little town, but it was very targeted towards the cruises - both islands only have a population of 45,000 and the capital about 15k. However, you will find that in all the ports you stop at - "rich" tourists are a good source of income. If you can, get out of the port towns and explore the islands. It'll be a lot more fun! Both are beautiful islands though and the culture is very laid back. Have a good time!
Maybe Terry Nutkins could give you some good tips on St Kitts his dad was head coach there I believe.
Is she going with him. After this long she should be allowing him on his way to S.A. with the Barmy Army
Enjoy Liam and don't forget to say yeh man. They say it all the time, I just thought it was in cool runnings.
Just a few times!! You won't get long ashore I imagine so head for the boatyard in Barbados, mcbrides at the gap if you get an overnighter CuraƧao is my favourite island. It's like Amsterdam in 30deg heat, get a bottle of Amstel bright, only sold in the Dutch Antilles, Don't go to campo alegre!! You'll have to google that Tortola has the pussers rum factory just by the cruise terminal, get a pot of headache in there and you'll be reight.
Tortola was idyllic. But poor. Antigua beautiful, but some very poor parts. Do the trip to Nelsons dockyard. Taxi drivers will show you Sweets, where Courtley Ambrose lives, but they WON'T show you wher King Viv lives, no matter how much you tip them. Barbados had brilliant beaches but was the only island I felt unsafe - lots of anti - white stuff. Grenada was stunning, but very poor - was recovering from storms when we were there (and American military action IIRC). Buy loads of Saffron and sell it back home for extortionate profit, like a true capitalist. St Kitts very scenic, St Maarten very picturesque and fantastic creole accent. Love the spelling. Expertly combines the two names of Curtly Ambrose and Courtney Walsh. I always did get the two mixed up* * Yes, I know. Racist.
We had our Honeymoon in Barbados, albeit 17 years ago. Loved the place. I'm guessing it's changed since we were there, but the things we loved were the Ship Inn at St Lawrence Gap for Live Music, and the Oistins Fish Fry (think Barnsley Market by the sea, serving fresh catch barbecued fish, chicken and other food from small market stalls). Interspersed with beer shacks, rum shacks and live music. Full of locals letting their hair down. Just a lovely atmosphere. No idea if either is still going on. The other thing we did from Bridgetown was the helicopter ride of the island - not for the faint hearted - a few stunts thrown in.
Both are still going, oistins is very busy the ship not so, the rest of the bars in the gap have become busier though, I used to go to hole town where there are some excellent bars and shacks, great times
