I only committed 2 fouls all game. The first was obstruction and i hold my hands up it was a free kick. The second the their player was one on one and I went in for the ball and he got his foot to it and just nicked it away from me. Ref gave me two yellow cards. Even in the Premier League either booking would have been incredibley harsh, let alone in the York Leeper Hare League. Unbelievable. £36 and a 7 day ban, which falls in a week when we have a mid-week game
Something wrong there The ref gave a free kick for obstruction? Surely not - they don't give those at Oakwell any more!
RE: Something wrong there To be honest the first one I stepped right across him and took him out so i can accept the booking for that one (even though 99 times out of 100 at my level the ref wouldn't have booked me) but the second was a joke. Even their players asked the ref why. Then he wouldn't let me walk off until giving me a lecture
no video evidence! i once got sent off, came on as sub at h/t n the ref was too busy yapping to take note despite me being 1 yard away telling him, kicked off 2nd half and about a minute in he shouted our captain over, next thing i was off!!
I'd always had you down as A thoroughly likeable, decent lad when I've read your posts. But I may have been wrong!
I got sent off once in a 25 year career I was keeper, indirect free kick, ref stood with arm pointing straight up. This fella chipped it straight in. I left it on purpose. The ref gave a goal, following which I wandered over to him to enquire as to the thinking behind this decision. Straight red, £25 fine and 3 week ban.
RE: I'd always had you down as Only second red of my career! I still can't believe it. Normally at our level you only get red cards for swearing at the ref! Some of the tackles that go unpunished ever week are terrible then i get a red card for two innocuous fouls and have to pay 40 quid for the privilege!!
Problem is once I'd been sent off and I was walking off I may have inadvertantly told him he was a "something" joke, and he said he would be reporting that to the league too....
Inadvertantly - quality! I developed a technique later while playing cricket to avoid disciplinary action. I have been known to swear at umpires in German when somebody nicks one and is given not out. Let's off steam and the look on their faces is quality - they sort of know what is going on but can't do anything about it. Anyway how can you "inadvertantly" swear at someone
RE: Inadvertantly - quality! well there may have partly intended to swear but sometimes its needed to espress your exasperation!
ok ok I shouldn't have questioned his ability, but that was post ridiculous red card. I will from now on tyr to live up to the high opinion you've formed of me!
I should think so, too! A thoroughly decent young chap like yourself, behaving like a rascal. For shame.
Debate on R2 yesterday .. about swearing in Womens sport..... can honestly say I can't ever remember any foul language in any of the football games I played. I can however remember being kicked up in the air by a 13 year old who was playing for West Brom (who got away with it), and the worst incident I have seen on any football pitch anywhere, where a teammate of mine had to be taken to hospital in an ambulance after a player took it upon herself to repeatedly kick her in the stomach whilst she was lying on the floor. I think bad things happen in sport at any level, but mostly good things happen.
