Been on liverpool website and seen Hammil has not got a squad number and they go up too 52, Benitez has bought quite a few foriegn youngsters this pre season as well. Hammil has not played in any of there pre season tour matches yet benitez is praising his youngsters on how they have equipped well in there friendlies. Hammil as not been on bench against thailand , i think Benitez has given up on him and i hope it is us who profit from it

ve not got back to them (Rangers], there's nothing happening there at the moment," added Davey. "But I'm still looking for a few more players and speaking to Liverpool about Adam Hammill.

"We've lost about seven or eight players from last season, but I'm looking to have a more British-based squad and there's going to be a chance for the younger players to break into the team .

"In the past budgets have priced British-based players out of the market, but I think the market is becoming more comparable now.

"I've brought in foreign players in the past and they've done a job, but we are now looking to be more British-based."
So davey is still pursuing Hammill, This would be a big investment as i believe this lad is going to be a great player given time and confidence. Hes young and we should be making every effort to sign him on a long term contract as hes money in the bank for us in years to come.

I hope you're right mate, i really do. But i just cant help thinking that it'll only take a team with promotion prospects to lure him away from us. Davey should be pestering like **** to get him here before anyone else starts sniffing around!

"In the past budgets have priced british players out of the market"????

Yet he paid 500k on a unknown from Peru when around the same time the following transfers were going around.......

Matt Mills 300k to Donny, Hoolahan 250k (rep of ire) to Norwich, Parkin 275k to Stoke?

Pull the other one Davey, 1 or 2 of your cheap foreign imports have worked...Muller, Colace but the vast majority have failed and still your looking at foreign players from the Cyprus 2nd division, Cryne shouldn't trust him with his money on anymore of these players. He made 450k on Muller but wasted far more on Mostto, Christensen ....

    £150,000, £175,000, Free, Free, Free

    Stephen Foster
    JCR
    Luke Steele
    Rob Kozluk
    Darren Moore

All British based players he's signed for very little. And he was slated for 4 out of 5 of those at the time.

With the foreigners, you take a gamble, sometimes you lose. Looks like he's learnt that with the statements coming out.

He thought those players were better than what the British market had. Most managers have always said they can get more for their money abroad.

Who are these Cyprus 2nd division? The trialists? Because that's all they are, we haven't signed em.

You've only got to look at Forest to see the going rate for 'Championship experience'. It aint cheap.</p>

You have proved my point there...

with the 5 British players he did sign, saying we were priced out is a load of rubbish, he signed those five for cheaper than Mostto. Yes i believe the trialist is from the Cyprus leagues, lets see if we offer him a contract.

All of those were out of contract, had a poor time at their last club or from the lower leagues though.

He was slated for 4 out of those 5 signings as well.

Hoolahan? Mills? they weren't out of contract, Davey is talking rubbish, the British players were always there for the price he was paying for some of the foreigners he was bringing in, other clubs have managed to bring in British players for 100k-500k with experience in the Championship. Thank god he's learnt his lesson because 500k for Mostto was a big big mistake and risky, that money could have upped our bid for Adam or even kept Howard here with a pay rise.

Wasn't Mills an unproven Centre Half who'd never played in the Championship?

Also Hoolahan had only played in Scotland and League 1? And was ***** at Norwich?

Not exactly the Championship experience everyone seems to be after were they?

Didn't Hoolahan play for Blackpool in the Championship? Mills played on Loan wth Colchester, Coventry and Southampton in the Championship. Sheff Wed seem to find these players on free transfers or cheap transfers e.g. Gray..Purse etc saying we were priced out is a bad excuse, take a look through the squads of the Championship teams and see how many British players have been bought for under 500k with Championship experience, you would be surprised.

Cant believe he's not gone in for Adam again....

He's messing Blackpool around, go in with the money from Muller and try and snatch him from their hands. He's seen him play at this level. And what's happening with Gray? he's been on his way up for a medical all week apparantly, what's he coming on? a Hoggies coach because its taking him ages to get here.....

I'm going with what l have got.....we can compete at this level.

I know that bringing in a proven goal scorer at championship level is paramount but by buying players such as hammill and there potential is showing the club are going in the right direction for the future. These young players brought up at academys like liverpool, Man utd Arsenal, chelsea and never ever getting a sniff in there first team squad but having the best coaching there is, is the way to go football wise and finicially.

Nothing this summer has suprised me ....

...... the man may have his hands tied behind his back financially compared to other clubs in the Championship, but he simply is not up to the task - he seems to have little idea of what he wants and when he identifies somebody, he does not seem to be able to persuade the player to come and push the deal through.

I keep saying it, but we should have got shut of him straight after the Plymouth match, because in my opinion he never learns from his mistakes. We missed relegation by the skin of our teeth, and with 15 days to go we have let 4 or 5 first team players leave and signed one from York City's subs bench. How can that be progress?

Hoolahan had a release clause at Blackpool.

That's why he went so cheap. I've no idea what you're both trying to achieve in this argument but I just thought I'd mention that.

I don't think Sodje was from Yorks subs bench. He had signed for them while he awaited a work permit, he was not allowed to play.
