Cos we might actually beat them and get **** all money, as opposed to lose to Stoke and get **** all money. On the other hand, if we played well we could beat Stoke. But we'll probably go and lose to Walsall and make all that academic!
RE: yep its come on Barnsley!!! Unless there's loads of money in it for us, the cup's only a distraction. Let's try to reclaim a top 6 spot and quick by winning our first match for a bit.
If you think about it If we get Tamworth we are very likely to get into the 5th round. ypu would expect a big team then and a nice pay day. Also we get money for progressing from each round e.g. £40,000 if we beat Walsall (not bad to say we got Wright for 50.). anyone know how much we recieve for progressing to the 5th round?
An extra £60,000 Which would take prize money for the cup up to 140 grand. It would pretty much mean that Hayes has been paid for, or looking at it another way, if we win the replay against Walsall then that is Wright's fee paid.
it's all ifs and buts now though I think if we knew we were 90 minutes away from a guaranteed money-spinner, fair enough, but we have 2 tough away games, which, if played in the normal FA Cup spirit could leave us with players short for valuable league games as a result of bookings and injuries, or just tired because we have played too many games and hence we aren't at our best for league games. I want to get out of this Division first and foremost!
RE: it's all ifs and buts now though Yeah but we're forced to play the Walsall one so in theory it's now only one extra game if we get through... then if we get through and get a big draw, nice one. If we don't, we might then be in the quarters A severe improvement in form is needed though of course, and yes, I know the league's more important, but the prize money and gate receipts shouldn't be sniffed at.
RE: it's all ifs and buts now though Success breeds success. I don't see it as either or, we need to get back to winning games again.
RE: it's all ifs and buts now though If our players are tired after continually playing 3 games in a week and drop down to mid-table because all our defenders are injured or unavailable, e.g., this week, you might change your mind.
RE: it's all ifs and buts now though The FA cup run we had in our Premiership season gave us the confidence we needed to have a good go at staying up. It doesn't necessarily follow that a run will cost us a promotion place
RE: it's all ifs and buts now though No it doesn't, but the teams that achieve both 90% of the time are the ones with big squads, who can rotate the players. Plenty of teams do well in the cup and fail in the league or get relegated.
Its a bigger incentive for walsall because whoever wins in Stoke or Tamworth it would be a local derby for them
