But I must pay homage to them for their banner today at Celtic park remembering the Ibrox Disaster. Absolute class.
Nice gesture but I'm not sure about the clearly sectarian symbol. I imagine a few die hard Rangers fans might not like it.
Brush I just took it purely at face value. I remember my uncle flew up to Glasgow airport to join the New Year’s celebrations in Dundee and returned home to Wolverhampton just after New Year. In those days the road to Glasgow airport passed Ibrox and I remember taking him back to the airport seeing all the twisted barriers on stairway thirteen. Horrible sight. I was at the time fourteen years old.
There both as bad I watched the Scottish final other week 1st half when rangers were one up all I could here is that song about the pope n ira. We have 50kids sing it and get warnings and fined they have 20k fans sing it nothing. Maybe the Scottish f.a need to sort it out.
Was gutted Spurs drew with Rangers because they're both *****. Back on topic, condolences to those that lost their lives mate.
Well, that's more of an Irish symbol, I was referring to the obviously Catholic pair of hands holding a rosary.
I initially saw the it same Ian but on reflection it just seems a bit insensitive. I remember you telling us about seeing it when we met up in Broughty Ferry.
Terrible day for football, January 1971. The religion of those who died, their family & friends, is totally irrelevant.
To be fair the banner says we pray for the victims. If it was a Muslim card with a religious symbol saying they pray for the victims I doubt that would be deemed insensitive. Some sensitive souls about though I suppose.
How ironic the second goal was in the 66th minute ❤️here’s to the 66 people that lost their lives on 2nd January
I quite agree but you have to put in context of the sectarian problems over the years in Glasgow. If in doubt, leave it out, why bring religion into it at all?
It's way past Religion now,i support Barnsley and couldn't care less about other people's view on Religion or politics.
You seem to have an anti-religion obsession which is preventing you seeing this gesture for what it really is. It is sad, nay sick, if you really believe this is some kind of back handed jibe at Rangers supporters. I assume you are aware that so many clubs, including our own, owe their foundation to the church. This is not an exhaustive list but include Aston Villa, Birmingham, Bolton, QPR, Man City, Everton and its offspring Liverpool, Swindon, Fulham, Southampton, even Spurs. You should show the same respect to Celtic that they are demonstrating to the victims of the Ibrox disaster.
Well thanks for implying I'm sad and sick and I'm completely aware of the fact that Barnsley FC was created largely by The Revered Tiverton Preedy. I also understand that many modern institutions came about through the church. Maybe I'm wrong and whoever put this banner up was completely genuine in their sentiment in which case I applaud them. I'm also convinced that there will be a section of the Rangers support who will see it the way I saw it. Nothing I have said was meant to disrespect either Celtic or Rangers or their supporters. I remember seeing the mangled barriers on the stairs of Ibrox and I feel for the relatives and friends of those who lost their lives that day. I have nothing more to say about this.
Wouldn't say it's anti religion to point out the people of Glasgow are sensitive about religion. It's probably anti religion to point out its all fairytale man made nonsense, but Brush didn't do that.
