My car has been there having a job done on its suspension. I hate using the main dealer because they are expensive and picky, but some jobs on my car have to be done there because it's a Japanese Import (non-UK model) and they have to get certain parts shipped in. Anyway, whenever they work on your car for whatever reason they kindly do a free visual inspection (trying to find - or some would say create - other faults). Lo and behold when driving home I realised that the engine sounded noisier and was behaving sluggishly. Phoned them up to see if they can explain it, to be told 'We haven't been anywhere near the engine'. Err...the visual inspection report is telling me I have an oil leak (news to me), which they tried to clean up, so they must have been somewhere near the engine doing something! Went back outside to lift the bonnet and then noticed the outer casing of one of my spot lamps is broken, hanging loose and won't slot back together as things have broken off it. Funny how things start going wrong with your car when a garage has had their hands on it. ANYONE GOT ANY PIAA SPOTLAMPS FOR SALE!
Same here I cant stand them. Took my car in to main dealer a year ago for some work doing to it under warranty and was told by the man behind the service desk that they'd done a visual check and 3 out of 4 of my tyres were illegal and the 4th was barely legal with regards the amount of tread. Got told it would be £300 for a set of tyres and they reccomend I have them replaced there and then. I knew they were wrong because I'd checked the tread that morning ready to take the car in but just to be on the safe side I drove straight to a tyre shop in barnsley who told me that there was loads of tread on the tyres. About 6 months later it flew through its MOT and even now a year later I still have a fair bit of tread on the tyres. I've still got the inspection sheet from the main dealer from a year back as well saying that all of them needed replacing. Lying Barstewards
Report them to trading standards or at least the uk importer telling them you are being ripped off by their main dealer network and want to understand how they are going to address these tactics being done in the name of the manufacturer.
Took my car for a service in the new year at the dealers - a well-known german brand from Bavaria Anyway, service done & they handed me an estimate for £2900 + VAT for the works needed to get it through an MoT. Every service it's had has been done there & never a problem with the garage or car. Found it a bit odd tbh as I drive it every day & no symptoms have shown of such major works. I've had the car from new (from same dealership) & have had well over 200k of trouble-free motoring. Nothing goes wrong with it - new tyres, wiper blades etc excepted. Not even a new clutch or exhaust. I've had my moneys worth I think Anyway, MoT runs out in September & so I thought I'd run it into the ground until then and take advantage of the scrappage scheme. Unbeknown to me, they wanted a certain length of unexpired MoT so I had to put it through a test. Flew it - 2 new tyres (which have been ropey for 2 months, more tread on a frowning bulldogs head lol) & two rubber bushes. Just as I'd suspected, a scam to try to get me to change the car. Won't be getting a new one there now!
No it was Polar. Toyota at barugh green still phone me up every couple of months asking if I want to buy a car off them though which I don't. Am I the only one that gets annoyed by companies contacting me offering me a service when i've already given them an answer? Car companies trying to sell me a car when i've told them I don't want one. insurance companies offering me insurance and best of all sky sending me post asking me to take out a sky subscription. It normally comes on the same day as my sky magazine that I get free with my subscription. In fact in case anyone from that god awful company is reading this then dear sky, please can you stop asking me to subscribe to sky when you KNOW i already do so. Could you kindly stop sending me out monthly letters asking me to subscribe and stop phoning me and instead knock a fiver a month off my bill. This wont cost you a penny and will simply be the money you will save constantly contacting me needlessly. A simple search of your customer database will confirm that I am indeed a customer
I bought an approved used Toyota once. Put my deposit down and they informed me that they simply had to service it for me to ensure that I had a full run at everything - but to relax it had been through a multipoint inspection already and this was just a formality for my benefit - I could pick the car up in a couple of days. I paid the deposit and the contract was agreed and signed. Few days later I called up the garage to check everything was alright to pick the car up - they told me they needed more time. I called a couple of days later and I was informed that the deal was off and that the inspection they had made on the vehicle had revealed the need for a significant part change and that basically, for the price I had paid them for the car, it wasn't worth their while doing the business. Didn't matter that I had a contract or had paid a deposit. Or that they had given me in writing that the car had already been through a convincing 'multipoint check'. I offered an alternative of them finding me a car of not less spec, not more mileage, same model, any colour they liked - but they refused. All they offered was my money back and an apology. Didn't matter to them that I had taken out a bank loan, or paid off the finance on my trade in order to do the deal and that I was now committed to up to my neck. I thought long and hard about legal action - but is it ever worth the hassle? Luckily when I phoned my bank and they were able to reverse my finance agreements - lucky that First Direct are a good bank. Never been back to any Toyota dealer since. When I was looking to trade in a Hyundai at a Hyundai place, I was told by the salesman that the fact that I didn't had dealer stamps in the service history invalidated my warranty (despite the fact that it was all approved parts only and regular as clockwork). Had to tell him to get out of my car. Can't stand being blatently lied to. At the end of the day - they're all car dealers and it's an industry that is, in my experience, rife with dishonesty and sharp practises (when you find a good garage you stick with it).
Ah - the famous multi-point inspection. I bought a car from Harratts about 10 years ago that came complete with a 50 point check. Within a week my battery failed and got told I had two illegal tyres - both part of the check.
Just been touring scrap yards and spares outlets for these spotlamps. Looks like I'm going to be unlucky. They will have been on the car when it came over from Japan and will be very difficult to find. One of the places I've tried is Bullseye at Thurnscoe and they have always managed to find me elusive parts in the past. Found the same spotlamps on the internet, but buying new and as a set is going to cost me £350+. Just think I'll take the other one off and do without.
Most of them are useless and bent Did find a good independent but live too far away now unfortunately so back to main peugeot dealers at the moment - one of which seems to be basically OK - Happy days when you could do it yourself like on my first couple of cars.
i just got a new peugot and was told the service was every 20,000 miles but now after the first 1 month sevise they want to do it every 12,000 becasue i do high mileage are they allowed to do this? they reclocked the service clock to show 12,000 as well but it was 20,000 before
they hav'nt turned the clock back they have altered the next service mileage to 12,000 from 20,000 as i am a "high user"
That makes no sense heavyD whether you use many miles or not the service would have still been done every 20,000. Are you sure they didn't describe the type of driving that you do?
I can understand why you'd need one more regularly because you do a lot of 'city' driving and stop starts. Plus your learners will be grinding the gears a lot and not exactly driving properly which will put extra stress on your car so its not a bad idea to have the service more often. But I think their reasoning of you do more miles is a bit wrong because the service is at fixed mileage points anyway. I think your best bet would be to find yourself a good independent or approved garage and sort out a deal with them to get your car serviced at their garage every 12,000 miles. They might cut you a deal if they know it will be a regular thing
in the industry so don't lynch me (vans though) (hidebehindsofa) i remember the PD diesel engine's in VW's were variable servicing, the engine told you when it wanted a service, the guy's bombing up and down the M1 doing 50-60K a year could go upto 25K miles before a service, whereas the roundtowners were approx 12-15K. but not heard of the dealer being allowed to change your countdown to what THEY think. ring another main dealer service dept and ask if this is right,
