http://www.barnsleyfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10309~1383385,00.html Absolutely no contest once Muller if fully match fit. Steele only at fault for one goal this season? Thought have could have done better with Coventrys first instead of watching it go past him. And lets forget Simon about the run in last season. Fair Play he pulled off some good saves on Saturday but l would feel a lot more confident when Heinz is back.
Muller is the best keeper in the Championship. But SD is right about Steele he was brilliant aginst Derby but Muller was brilliant when he played last season.
Come on now - it is clearly to boost Steele's confidence. He knows he has to perfrom but will appreciate being publically applauded. I would prefer Muller but Steele should keep playing until he makes a mistake or two.
But most on here have been claiming will be a big part of turning our season around and shooting us up the league when he's fit. So which is it?
RE: If good man management is getting the best out of players... this is a good decision. You pick players on their current form, not on their reputation. Steele kept a clean sheet on Saturday and made several good saves. He needs the incentive of knowing that he will keep his place if he continues to perform to this level. That is good motivationally for him. Muller, however, needs to kn ow that he will need to raise his game to that of Luke on Saturday (or higher) to win back his place. This is also good motivation for him to come back with the most positive attitude. Of course, he will only get his chance again if Steele is dropped, or injured. I think that this is good motivational man management by Davey. It is also what competition for places is all about.
Do we need saving? Alright we lost the first 3 games, but we won on Saturday and what if in the next three games we pick up something like 6 pts? It wouldnt be that bad a start considering we have played Derby, Brum and QPR who were the pre-season favourites.
RE: Do we need saving? some good points made about everybody relying on muller coming back aswell as da silva to really push us up the table, keep steele in until he as a poor game or two! then get the big fella back in.
Could be another reason... Advising all and sundry Muller is surplus to requirements. Ressurecting the 3 or 4 million price tag.
I can see where Simon is coming frum, fair play to Steele he has been consistant really through the start of the season and as Davey rightfully says he has been at fault for only one goal coneeeded. I feel his performance against Derby was fantastic and warrants him a place in the side without question, however comparing the keepers is a no go Heinz is the best keeper in this leauge and once he has had three of four reserve games under his belt he needs to be in the side. It is a good problem for SD to have.
Or, astounding alternative Simon Davey tells situation as it is. On current form Steele deserves his place.
What do you want him to say? Muller will go straight into the eleven, even though Steele has done enough to keep his place? What sort of message is that giving Steele?
RE: Or, astounding alternative What else could he say. As soon as muller is fit, steele is out. Top motivation that would be. Fact is, muller has to prove himself better than steele to get in the team. Whether thats muller playing brilliantly in the reserves, or steele losing form. Or a combination of both. Davey could not have said anything else.
RE: If good man management is getting the best out of players... Agreed. What he said might not be what he's actually thinking (better not be), but is the most beneficial for the fight for the No.1 jersey.
STOP PRESS !!!.. Davey sounds like a manager at last. Plus giving the subs more than 10 mins on Saturday is this the turning point?
