Last week I was called a goon because of something I posted. Wonder if I’ll get the same response this time!

I believe that we may be at the start of something very good, and that has to be solely down to KH. The team on Saturday was probably, man for man no better than a Robins team, yet the workrate, skill, and entertainment was beyond comparison. After the Done – Clark substitution I believe we had 8 players that played under Robins. Of the other 3 you could argue that McNulty is worse than Shackell, Drinkwater is probably no better than Doyle, and Perkins is probably no better than the winger we had on loan Man City. I know the positions are slightly different, but the point I am making is that KH has a team of players of probably inferior quality, performing way way better than under Robins. Gray, JOB, Butterfield, Foster all seem to be playing far better under KH.

My concern is that if perform really well and shoot up the table, that KH will be in the spotlight. At the Supporters Trust meeting he stated that the reason they came to Barnsley was “AMBITION” and I have no doubt that if a low-profile premier league club came calling e.g. Bolton, Blackburn then he would be off like a shot. If given time, I believe that KH would not just have a first team playing entertaining football, he would have a full squad (including the academy) playing with the same team ethic and ethos. Again, at the meeting he talked of player layering, and that he was at Rochdale a year before he sold a player, but that he had a system in place such that as soon as a player left for good money, there was a capable player waiting to take their place, resulting in money in the bank, without a drop in quality. How great would it be to have such a system in place at the time that other clubs are having to trim their squads and wage bills next season when the new rules kick in. I think it is next season when everything will fall into place for the following reasons:-
    1. Our squad will have had a full season under Hillcroft and will all have adopted the new team ethics/style of play
    2. We will already have a year adopting the new financial rules
    3. Hillcroft will have had a year experience in the Championship and will have a better idea of what to expect rather than a baptism of fire
    4. Hillcroft will have had chance to start building a layered squad.

For these reasons I believe it is vital that KH is manager at the start of next season, and to keep him out of the spotlight I wouldn’t be too concerned if we only finished 16th-18th, picking up say 60 points, whilst playing entertaining football. I would then hope that we would have a brilliant second season and take everyone by surprise.

So, to be controversial, I would prefer to have an average season this year, and keep hold of KH, rather than flirt with the top six (if we’d have got the extra 6 points in the last 3 games that we probably deserved we’d be in 6th spot now) and risk losing him to one of the unfashionable premier league sides.

    Am I still a goon ?

If I recall you made your first post of that nature on the back of two horrific home games. It is no coincidence that since addison was dropped the team has played better. A hell of a lot more mobililty in the centre of the park.
Think if we stop up this season then we will be looking good next.

I'll be delighted if we stay up. One point per game, which we're currently averaging, is relegation form - and we've had about 17% of the season so far. If we're going to stay up we're going to have to find a way of winning some home games, and sharpish, otherwise its going to be a really tough ask. I think some people are getting severely carried away. We've won one match out of nine so far - to me that's still worrying, despite the tangible improvement in performance in the last four games...

When the New Rules kick in? They've not even been voted on or accepted yet so might not even happen....

Whether they get voted in or not, BFC have got their house in order. Surely a good thing? Not a stick to beat the club with.

I hope that one day soon I might see us win a game

Like the vast majority of Barnsley fans I haven't seen us win this season. Getting too good too soon is so far off the radar it isn't even registering.
