I agree Nudger. It's a bit of a concern to me that, even though we were in 'free fall' from January to April last season, and would have been relegated had it not been for Pompey's points deduction, we don't seem to have strengthened the team at all. Now I know we are skint, and I'm not pulling the team down before a ball has been kicked (before you all jump down my throat) but how can we hope to improve on the end of last season's performances with the same, or arguably weaker, squad?

Throw into the mix that the 6 'new' clubs into the division are likely to be better than us, where does that leave us apart from up **** creek without a paddle?

I've not felt this dis-interested so close to a new season in my life, I just hope that Keef has some plans to bring in some last gasp permanent signings (because lots of players will have no club yet) or a couple of quality loan signings (Centre Half and a Striker a must) or I'm afraid we are sitting ducks for relegation. It's difficult to imagine which 3 clubs in the division will be struggling more than us as things stand

I've accepted it although it still depresses me but we are going down barring an absolute miracle.

I don't think Pep is up to the job but he isn't going to get the chance to bring the personnel in needed to give us a chance, so the fact that he is clueless is almost irrelevant.

We're fooked if we don't get some defenders in.

Even if we do, we're relying on the world's fattest man to score the goals to keep us up.

I've never been his biggest fan Conan, and I fail to see why he has been so popular with lots of the fans, but the players he brought in last season, and the way we played up to New Years Eve, gives me some confidence in him, if it wasn't a flash in the pan.

We lost our way when we lost Butterfield, Drinkwater, Vaz Te, plus Hassell and Perkins for many weeks due to injury, but having said all that, he was then like a rabbit caught in the headlights for 4 months, chopping and changing the team and formation at least every game and sometimes a few times during a game, so that worries me.

I think we all accept what a tough job he has, with no dosh to spend, but it just feels to me like we are miles away (worse off) even from where we were this time last year in what is arguably going to be a harder league.

Thats not true. Had Pompey not cheated with players they couldnt afford they wouldnt have had the same points total they had. Also had Pompey not been deducted ten points who can say whether would have approached our final games differently.

Nail on head Albatross with the midfield losses last season ..... I don't think we were far off having the strongest midfield in the championship with Vaz Te, Butterfield, Drinkwater & O'Brien. Couple that with the service they provided an 'on-form' Davies and we were getting the results & also taking the pressure off the defence.

This summers signings have been scary to be frank. We need another front player to partner or put pressure on Davies because Rose, Dagnell & Mido (until he's matchfit in December) are way below good enough at this level. Apologies to Rose but he's just not experienced anough yet.

Defensively we need a nasty CH (Fozzy) is looking a busted flush to me.

We need 3 or 4 Championship experienced players (as the managers said all summer) ..... and if we don't get them we are towing.

And don't mentioned bl**dy LOAN players to me again ...... sick to the back teeth of them.

you'll be looking a long time...... shocking second string goalie who may be first choice soon....defence has more holes than a polo factory, midfield full of plodders / tryers and fatboy up front...... added to that a manager who thinks he is Mourhino.

darn before trimmings...... do hope i am wrong though

I know what you are saying Mario, and Pompey got what they deserved, but we never really looked like winning many games in that last 3 months of the season and deserved to be no higher than 4th from bottom, which still means we are in the **** this season without a massive improvement.

My opinion is that the bulk of our team were decent 'League One triers' and whilst we had the quality players amongst them (from August to January) we did ok. As soon as we lost the quality players, our team became just a League One outfit, hence the results over the last 3 months of the season. So the task for Keef is to add that quality ingredient again, equivalent to what we had for the first half of last season, and so far, I don't see that being added

We did play well in parts before Christmas - I cannot deny that. However, we were nowhere near as consistent as some people try to argue. There were some awful performances even with Drinkwater, Butterfield and Vaz Te in the side. Without those players we have seen how limited the majority of the players are. People will try and make a case for Perkins being a good player. He isn't. He's a trier who looks better than he is alongside decent players. If you need him to make something happen he will let you down. I remember when we signed Dawson and he was asked what he would bring to the team. His answer?? Energy. Chuff me. Louis bleedin' Spence would bring energy - a bit of footballing ability would be nice. If these are the types of players Pep favours then we have massive problems.

I honestly think we are at least seven players short and they will not be coming in.

I agree, we were terrible, woeful in fact, in the second half of the season and Keef has a massive job this season because if we don't improve we will be down by Xmas. I'm reasonably confident that we will have a decent season but I will be a lot more comfortable about the season if we bring in a couple more quality players, one of them being a centre half.

I honestly think we need an entire new back four, a midfielder who can tackle and is composed on the ball and two strikers.

I wasn't expecting a response like these......I thought fellow BBSs would be saying something on the lines of 'dunt worry everything will be fine'.

Last season at this time of year we had a new manager that was bringing in players from lower divisions but the attitude of the fans at that time was more positive than it is now.
Obviously the trap door event that we witnessed during the second half of last season has a lot to do with that.

Since we came up into the Championship we still haven't built anything on the successes of the previous season i.e. retained the better players and then added to that by bringing in an handful of other players to the squad.
In my view only 3 or 4 quality players should be added to the squad each season and not 8 or 9 that is being talked about now.
It seems as though during each close season a new team has to be built.
How can Barnsley Football Club have any chance of success if this is happening year on year?
