In my book there both the same. Calvin Plummer springs to mind. Had pace to burn but sadly didn't have the quality to compliment it.
The phrase seems to have entered the commentator's vocabulary in recent years, but as far as I can see it's gibberish.
I think you were right when you called if gibberish. Every one on a football field has pace. Its just that some have a bit more then others.
It's people who are actually fast rather than just looking fast by moving their legs quickly but don't actually get anywhere. Think the difference between Usain Bolt and Chris Shuker. Now, people who insist that he 'pinged it to the back post', or use 'ping' in any sentence that doesn't describe either a manufacturer of golf paraphernalia or table tennis - they want f**king shooting.
To have genuine pace, you need to be able to turn on the afterburners and leave your opponent for dead.
Pretty much. I don't get it either. Genuine seems to be the superfluous term of the moment in football. Genuine world class. Genuine title contenders. Genuine tackle. What a load of toss.
